Mary Worth 3792

Mary, you've just described a disfunctionally co-dependent relationship perfectly.

  1. Yes, Mary, that relationship defies all odds and strains credulity. It’s like some marginal writer telling this story is bankrupt of ideas and/or really lazy and just returns to the old familiar ad nauseam. BTW, Wilbur and Estelle don’t SEEM like different people, they ARE different people.

What about THE FISH?! Wilbur didn’t bring them anything from All Pets, and he hasn’t even mentioned them. Tragedy is just around the corner!

    1. Willa and Stellan are stunning happily in the memory hole with Dory's reminiscences and Bruce's fish eating days (except when he smells blood, then it's intervention time).

  2. “That intangible something” is the best euphemism for “brainwashing by meddling” I have yet come across.

  3. Good Lord, another week of this dreck? Merry Christmas, everybody.

    Kit Kat, you nailed it.

  4. My annual Carol is, unfortunately, Wilbur-centric. Let’s just cut to the final verse:

On the twelfth day of Worthmas, my true schlub gave to me
    Twelve singalongs
    Eleven bags of ribs
    Ten threatened cats
    Nine boombox blarings
    Eight rancid muffins
    Seven foot apparels
    Six combing-overs
    Five (fake) emerald rings
    Four whining calls
    Three French bulldogs
    Two floating goldfish
And an angry rant at karaoke.

Best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, in which Wilbur and Estelle get married, and by the immutable laws of the Worthiverse, are never heard from again.

  5. Since Weelbur and Eshtelle are too busy to thank Mary, she's giving herself her accustomed week o' gratitude.

  6. "And yet, how powerful is chemistry?" Mary thought-bubbled rhetorically, while stirring a fuming beaker of potent hallucinogens, hypnotics and Spanish Fly extract into the latest batch of Woody's Old Familiar barbeque sauce.

Theirs is truly a relationship beyond reasoning.

  7. Brava, brava fauxprof! This is another outstanding carol contribution! The three French bulldogs fell into place perfectly. Yes, Wilbur and Estelle should marry and immediately fall into the black hole that sucked in Adrian and Scott.

  8. I think Mary has just described the relationship many of us have with Karen Moy.

  9. Everyone, including our dear Wanders, I am glad to see your commentary today. As I read today's strip, I got the impression that KM was trying to lure Nance out of retirement. If only! It was a great relief, though, fauxprof, to see your carol. You covered all of Wilbur's bases in one deftly reworked verse.

  10. Bill the Butcher, I am not always on your wavelength, but your "brainwashing by meddling" is a perfect description of Mary's m.o.--the truly diabolical Mary we have all recently come to know.

  11. Yes, the Estelle taking Wilbur back is beyond all reason. Almost like it was a terrible decision...

I was going to say that they don't even have chemistry, but I do remember an organic chemistry lab from my undergraduate days where we synthesized something extremely stinky. I think it was the same chemical released by rancid butter.

  12. I cannot claim to equal the Great Nance, but allow me to offer this humble bold-face haiku.

A Christmas Present from Dr Timothy Leary

    Different...chemistry.
    Beyond appearances.

  13. Oh dear. Scottie McW's been into the eggnog already. One more week of this? I don't know, Scottie, but I don't see KM beginning a new story before the New Year. I think we're looking at another 11 days of this at least. Pass the eggnog, would you?

  14. fauxprof - Almost forgot to add, nicely done indeed! And hopefully, your Christmas wish will come true and Wilbur and Estelle will move themselves and all their pets to Goleta.
