Saul Wynter used to be an interesting character before Greta came along and ruined him. Let's get back to Madi, please. Or better yet, Lyle.

If only someone would care for Madi as much as Saul cares for his stupid dog. It hasn't been easy for Madi with her father, an underworld spy, whose wife was abducted 10 years ago by Venezuelan drug lords. But just you wait, Madi... what Daddy couldn't tell you is that he's bringing mommy back home and all will be well in September. So while he's off on an action packed adventure with guns, bombs and secret disguises to save his sexy wife, we'll just be here with you as you learn to love the dog.

To all you Madi haters out there, I'd like to point out that her boots don't show even the slightest inclination to kick Greta. I don't know why so many people don't like Madi. I think she's the most believable character I've ever seen in this strip. As a father, I've seen all of this before, but since my kids are grown, I can say that it can all work out. Madi brings back so many fond memories for me of watching my children grow. I want to see her say things to Saul like, "Step back five feet," and "Talk to the hand." Ah, those were the days.

Wait a minute... something isn't right. Oh, yes. This panel is from 18 months ago. Sorry, here's today's panel.

I suspect Madi is putting as much effort into "getting breakfast" as June is putting into today's strip. But hey, it's the month of June. And if anyone deserves to take a break this month, it's June Brigman. Dial it in, June, you've earned it. Thank you for all you do to make Mary Worth a gorgeous looking strip.

Twenty years active service Marine Corps may not have taught me how to say no to a distant leech of a relative, but it sure taught me how to make my bed.

The problem is Greta. She took away Saul's spine. Now, Bella... there was a mutt who would have shown Madi who didn't like whom.

Order your personal Greta pillow here.

Madi seems to have a lot in common with Toby. Do you think Madi will kill Greta the way Toby's hatred killed Bella? Speaking of Toby, I've been worried about her dessert for The Next Charterstone Meeting. I wonder how it's coming along?

Well, now we know why Madi was able to only pack one small carry-on for her three month stay with Saul. She packed it so tight that it spontaneously exploded when she plopped it on the couch.

I won't be able to call, or write, or email, or Zoom, or Facetime, or anything else, so I'll see you in September. Good luck.

"She lost her grandmother, who was old. So I figured, Hey, Saul's old... He'll make an easy replacement. Just like when your dog dies, how easily you can replace it with another dog. Am I right, Saul?"

"Hi, Madi. I'm Saul. We're first cousins twice removed. That makes Greta your second cousin, once removed. I'm just about to fry up some Spam. Would you like a slice?"

Christopher Morley was correct. I read this to my cat, and he was definitely not appreciative. You can try it out on your dog if you have one. If your dog appreciates it, consider replacing it with a cat:
Come, Greta! Let’s go for a walk! We can use the exercise… and it’ll help me deal with the thought of an unplanned guest arriving soon! Greta… we’ve enjoyed our peace for the past few months, haven’t we? By taking in Madi for the summer, we’ll be doing a good deed! I took you in, and it turned out pretty well! Don’t worry, Greta. I won’t ignore you when Madi arrives. I’ll always take good care of you! The question is… can I deal with taking care of a thirteen-year-old girl? Greta, we’re getting a guest in our home soon. It may affect our routine, but I made an agreement and it’s done. It’s just for a few months. You and me, girl… we’re forever! You’re the best, Greta. You came into my life like a light in the dark after I lost Bella. We had a rocky start, but you show me your gratitude every day. Aren’t we lucky to have found each other? There aren’t enough opportunities to do good deeds at my age. We have to take them when they come and yet… was it the right thing to do? Greta, I agreed to take Madi in for the summer. I haven’t seen her since she was a toddler, but Lyle seemed so desperate! Who knows what she’s like now? A thirteen-year-old girl who’s lost her grandmother… one of her primary caretakers. Greta, let’s sit here and enjoy our peace while we can before she arrives.

"Attention Charterstone Residents, please keep your eyes open for Saul Wynter. He's wandered off again. He was last seen walking the grounds with Greta, but has not been seen for several hours. He's wearing a bow tie and repeating himself over and over, as usual."

By the way, I wanted to share this with you. If you are stuck at home, as we are, and you'd enjoy a night of comedy and theatre, my daughter finally convinced me to watch: "Ani: A Parody with Music" by StarKids. If "Rise of the Fast Talker" is anywhere near this hilarious, I can see why Dawn fell in love with Jared. Enjoy a night in with someone you love!

Saul, if you play this right, Madi could end up taking care of YOU. You aren't getting any younger you know, and it would be nice to have someone cut your simvastatin pill in half every morning.

Maybe it's best if Saul doesn't run into Mary on his walk. I'm sure Greta's advice will be just as helpful.

Unplanned guest? At first I thought that was a euphemism for unplanned pregnancy. Then I remembered what I was reading and was greatly relieved.

I don't know much about him, but I think I admire his persistence.

Venezuela?? What kind of underhanded dark "work" is "Lyle" involved in anyways? Holy cow. Of all the places to ship off to for three months. Is he a spy? A kingpin for some drug cartel? You better do as he asks, Saul; every other relative has "disappeared."

When your maternal grandmother's cousin is your closest living relative, something is definitely up.

Please let this story be about Lyle, and not about Madi and the trouble she gets into eating Toby's dessert on Saul's old-lady couch.

Mary Worth 3384

I like Lyle. Turquoise shirt, purple hair, frowny-face wrist tattoo. He's got just the right amount of rebellious angst to believably be messing up his daughter's life. And now, he's got a favor to ask his mother-in-law's cousin whom he hasn't seen since, I'm guessing, his wife's funeral 13 years ago. What kind of favor do you ask your mother-in-law's cousin, that you can't ask your siblings, or your deceased wife's siblings, or your mother-in-law's siblings? This sounds like the set up for some very compelling and believable drama... or some hilarious madcap high-jinks.

Mary Worth 3383

Okay, it's getting a little scrambled, so I'm going to break it down for you:

1) Toby has volunteered to bring a dessert to the Charterstone Meeting and is feeling overwhelmed.
2) Saul Wynter's cousin has died.

Now, this is where it gets confusing...

3) Saul's cousin's son-in-law or daughter-in-law has called his or her mother-in-law's cousin to notify him of Saul's cousin's death. Got it?
4)Apparently, Saul's cousin's son-in-law or daughter-in-law is a single parent who relied on his or her mother-in-law to help take care of his or her rebellious daughter appropriately named Madi because she enjoys death metal.

Everyone got it now? Should we expect Saul, who is good at taking in strays, to take on the task of raising Madi at Charterstone where she will eat Toby's dessert and find love?

Poor Madi. I hope she likes wearing yellow bow ties.

I'm just giggling with glee! Toby makes dessert for the Charterstone Meeting! There's going to be a Meeting! Charterstone Meetings are the best. (I'm assuming. This is completely new territory for me.) And there isn't a Weston to be seen! Oo-de-lally, oo-de-lally, golly, what a day!
