What? The Adrian Corey story is over already? It just started in February. But if it must end, at least we get to have a pool party, and the promise of a Wilbur Weston story. And we get a glance at Ian's legs. Ian seems to be the only one who knows how to dress for a pool party. Everyone else is ready for church.

Mary-Worth Time has always been a tricky thing. Although Mary Worth and Adrian were doing dinner dishes in yesterday's strip, today's strip clearly picks up with breakfast dishes the next morning. It's seven a.m., the sun is shining and every one has put on their Sunday best. Then, sparing us five more hours of this conversation, the strip finishes with the lunch dishes at 12:30.

I feel like Karen Moy has heard about irony, but doesn't really understand the concept. When Scott was saying early in this story things like, "We have our whole lives together," and "I finally have something to live for," then IRONY would be Scott dying from the gunshots that riddled his body and left his arm in a sling for two weeks and made his leg a little numb. Death was ironic. Doing the dishes after Thanksgiving dinner and talking about how much you love Scott and how you'll always be there for him no matter how much face touching his recovery requires is not ironic; it's expected.

If you want to keep us on our toes, Karen Moy, have Mary suddenly sprout a third arm from the middle of her chest to help her reach the high shelves. Wait a minute. Whoa. This strip is full of surprises after all.

I'm indeed thankful for this day too. I'm also grateful for yesterday, and all of your birthday wishes! I join my voice to Karen Moy's and Joe Giella's in wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving.

Aww, Karen Moy, how did you know that today is my birthday? This is the sweetest birthday message I've ever received. I'm glad you enjoy the blog. Every day with Mary Worth, Jeff, Toby, Adrian and Drew, and all the rest of our special friends is a gift to me too.

From yesterday's strip:

And today, perhaps the oddest piece of Mary Worth continuity ever: The chair in the hall facing the wall.

Okay, I admit it... it's the only piece of Mary Worth continuity ever.

Wonderful. But what's motivating this sudden case of dwarfism?

And here Adrian was expecting to endure a lengthy recovery with Scott. She must be very disappointed. Never underestimate the power of face touching.

Delilah Jonis definitely has a crack with lots of light getting in. She calls Mary just to say how happy she and Lawrence are, when in reality she's run away from home again and is hiding out at the Yellowstone Lodge. As we learned last spring, her home in the Valley is nowhere near as nice:

That's funny, I was just kicking myself the other day for all the time I wasted while you two were apart. Perhaps we're not that different after all.

"Oh, Lawrence? Well, I haven't quite told him yet, Mary. I'm afraid he might react badly, what, with all his Podcasting and everything. I was wondering if I could stay with you until after the baby arrives."

For those of you who might not have recognized Delilah since her rhynoplasty, you just need to remember: Headband. Delilah has that headband growing out of her head. One day she may have it surgically removed, but not until after the baby arrives. If it's a girl, it too may inherit a bow of skin to tuck her hair under. If it's a boy, he can inherit his father's love of Podcasting.

Although Mary was in the car when the phone first rang (see yesterday's complete strip), she somehow managed to get to her phone in time.

Could it be a new story? Or is Adrian just going to call the hospital to see how Scott's recovery is coming along?

I'm hoping this is the very first panel of a brand new story because it is so rich in foreshadowing possibilities!

Literal: Toby tries to call Mary's home, but she gets voice mail.

Romantic: Wilbur gets a call from a mysterious stranger who sends him roses every day.

Cute: A young woman in Russia strikes up a telephone friendship with Mary when they discover they both love to wear yellow.

Ironic: Dawn's telephone doesn't work, but she falls in love with the telephone repair man who ends up getting shot in a drug raid at the Santaroymart customer support call center.

The promise of a new story always feels so hopeful!

"I'll do whatever it takes. I'll stand by Scott no matter what! Even if it means changing his sling twice a day. Even if it means removing his neck Band-Aid. Even if it means never having my face touched again!"

By the way, who is that little girl? And where's Adrian with her lab coat and pearls? Fortunately, Jeff has put on a cool sweater vest. I admit, I don't know a lot about producing a daily comic strip, but why does everyone change their clothes on Sundays?

I'm glad someone finally thought of a way to help Scott. That sling and head bandage weren't really appropriate for his leg wound.

As Adrian touches face, Scott lies in his bedroom, listening to hospital hi-fi, wondering where everybody went. Don't worry, Scott, someone will come by in a few days to assess your numbness. Hopefully, a medical professional of some sort. And maybe they'll ask you, "Who put this tourniquet on your head, and why are you wearing a sling? Well, as soon as your leg wakes up, I guess you can go." It'll be a great relief to get so much. (How much? A lifetime's worth!)

Jeff, your love for Scott knows no bounds.

Oh, Scott, I hope you make it. Almost shot in the leg, poor man. It could go either way. Vital areas were spared in this almost-mortal grazing.

He told you that you were a minor pain in the neck? I think he was just trying to spare your feelings, because you are definitely a major pain in the neck.

Jeff seems very excited to learn that Scott may need his assistance for the rest of his life.

But, hey, if not all vital areas were spared after all, and Scott's got a numb leg, our favorite mail order catalog, Harriet Carter, has just the thing:

The EZ Up Chair Riser

So, at first Adrian is all, "I love you. I'm wearing your ring. For better or worse, sickness and health..." But now she's all like, "Why don't we just wait and see if you get better," and hiding her ring to avoid arousing his hopes.

Poor Scott looks absolutely delusional. He appears to believe he's at the church getting married. But he is right about one thing: He can't leave. Because he can't walk.

Scott, clearly, has become one of the Nazgul.

Meanwhile, down in the Mountview Hospital cafeteria, Mary tells Jeff the same story she told Adrian... about the only man she will ever love. Jeff's had a really rough day. Sucking the grease out of that hashbrown patty is his only comfort.
