Oh what I wouldn't give for Mary just this one time not to go down the route of aphorisms and homilies and instead say "Frank, stop being such a stupid big jerk, you stupid big jerk."
While Frank blathers about his daugher, Mary locks eyes across the rink with the wise woman who thought to bring her silver to polish during skate practice.
Frank reminds me of that father on the show American Chopper. I could only watch it once. The whole show was about a father berating his son while they built a custom motorcycle. Pretty soon Lynn will start crying, then Mary will have to console her, after which Frank will be plenty sorry he ever thought of renewing his acquaintance with ol' Mary. lol.

"Yes, amazingly WEAK"
That about sums it up.
Hey! Where did Frank's stylishly graying temples go?

That was amazing, Frank. What did you think?
It Stinks!
Love that very Peggy Flemingesque outfit on the skater in the background.
Um, Frank, where exactly are you looking?
