"... In age, finances, education? In health, talents, family disfunctions? In addictions, drink preferences, gambling debts? In genetic mutations, body odors, multiple affairs? Underwear, flatware, flatulence? Everything? Are you sure? Don't you want a little variety in your life? Wilbur Weston is the one for you!"

Not dangerous? The man fell off a cruise ship! He had to be talked off a cliff! He over drinks regularly, and is a jealous maniac. How many red flags do we need?

Mary Worth 4192

Even now, Mary is forumlating a plan to get these two together. She just has to help Wilbur go about it right.

"Oh, Stell, he SHOULDN'T have crossed your boundaries of friendship... BUT don't you think you should go out with him just one or two more times, just as friends? Perhaps you just haven't given him enough time to grow on you. Come over for some muffins and I'll persuade you so you aren't uncomfortable with this idea."

There's a lot I could probably say about how Mary is going to come up with some way to convince Estelle to enjoy Wilbur's endearing quirks, but I can't because I'm too enthralled by that cat walking on a leash side by side with a French bulldog. There are all kinds of freaks of nature in this world. I guess the same thing could be said about the people in this strip.

I still think Wilbur's dead and that Estelle needs serious psychological help.

He's inside your house.
At first, I thought Wilbur was outside her window again, but THEN I realized this is a floating head. Perhpas in the top five of all floating heads.

Oh, how I hope she's been hallucinating all day. We just need a little Hitchcockian twist to suddenly make this more interesting. It turns out that Wilbur really DID die at sea.

Time for the restraining order. I mean, this is freaking horrifying. Ironically, he is actually stalking someone else in the class.

Mary Worth 4183

Fate is an awfully powerful word, Wilbur. It implies the gods have brought you together multiple times in a single day, and that should Estelle eschew frantenizing with you in the pet food aisle, the furies will be summoned to destroy you both. Gosh, I hope you're right.

Mary Worth 4182

Wilbur's got his stalker shoes on. He snuck right up on her. I get the feeling this may become a running gag.

Monday, February 13, 2023

Mary Worth 4181

Estelle looks like she's seeing a ghost. Which, if the Worthiverse were fair, she would be.

Mary Worth 4180

Ironically, Estelle's excitement makes the rest of us uncomfortable.

GO EAGLES!!

You might want to inform Wilbur that it's permanent. He's just outside the window watching you.

Mary Worth 4177

Of course she looks happier! She's dating a man! Why else would anyone be happy in the Worthiverse?

Mary Worth 4176

Okay, now even Mary is calling her "Stell." But what really tickles me is Mary's audacity, pointing out Libby's physical impairment.

Do you kids even know how lucky you are, to find love so suddenly? Some people have to work on their relationship for several dates before they're comfortable pressing their mouths against each other.

This has got to be SO frustrating for Rita Coolidge. Not even MARY WORTH will give her credit for her song, attributing it to Anita Koolidge instead.

Maybe I'll add "Layla" to the playlist. Here's why. I went on a deep dive, wondering if Anita Koolidge could be a play on Rita Coolidge who helped write an unreleased song with Jim Gordon called "Time." You can listen to what sounds like a demo version of it on YouTube here. At the beginning, you can hear the familiar refrain from "Layla" by Derek and the Dominioes. When Layla was released, she was shocked that she didn't get a writing credit. You can read an excert from her memoir about it here, but be warned, there is probably some click-bait on the site. Better yet, I'll just add something by Rita Coolidge.

I still haven't scraped my musician wife off of the ceiling after yesterday's "Like riding a bicycle" remark. I don't think I'll show her today's strip.

It's only your second date, and your first date was the worst ever!
What a wonderful evening the other customers must be having.

Don't worry. Karen Moy does not get to make requests for the Charterstone Jukebox. I might add Huey Lewis and the News' "Heart and Soul" to the playlist, but NOT Hoagy Carmichael.

Wait... So at Sau's Piano Bar, the customers play? It's an open keyboard... at a bar? So generally, this place is like an eighth grade recital all the time, except that the musicians are drunk.
