Mary Worth 826

How are the CSI guys going to reconstruct this one? "Clearly, the car approached from the west, passed the victims, made an illegal U-turn, and shot the victims. Then the vehicle pulled another U-turn, and drove off to the east."

"Wait a minute Lieutenant. Don't be so sure. The victims could have disapparated across the street just before they were shot, and then disapparated back across the street as the car drove away."

"Disapparated? Like in Harry Potter? That would be hard to do wouldn't it, if you'd been shot?"

"Maybe they used a portkey?"

NOW it's clear: this whole painfully contrived plot within a plot within... something, was just a ploy (a Moy ploy, if you will) to let the "artists" flex their DC Comics cred.

Mayhaps this signals an unspoken yet desired career change? Ooh, I feel like Mary, lurking the halls of the nearest health clinic, passing out my Very Own Learned Understanding!

It's the drug cartel (from 50 years ago, as you can tell by the black car)! I'd recognize their brochures anywhere!

Who would put a hit on a mime? Clowns. It has to be clowns. This was a clown hit. I'm not saying an actual clown iced Richie. The car is way to big, but this has clown written all over it.

Why don't we stay with the car? I'm sure the hitman needs to retire to some cracked plaster heck hole where drama awaits. How does one turn to a life of taking money from clowns to whack mimes? What is his story?

Ten bucks says the shooter is a young Mary Worth.

Not as good as "shootout at Santa Royalmart," but good to see gun violence make a return to this strip.

How any of this justifies him deserting his family and continually standing up Dr. Mike is beyond me.

I once had a pet rock who possessed the intellectual gifts that animate Karen Moy.

Lonnie with his glasses and dark hair looks a little like CLARK KENT! Don't just stand there--DO something, Superman!!!

oh my i was not prepared for this one... can't wait to see what happens tomorrow.

jared, mary worth was never young. she is perpetually an old and nosy woman with flowing white hair.

There was a time, once...

But soon enough, something shifted inside and the Great Demon Mary took hold.

Then the shooting. Later, meddling.

I think this comic strip is afraid of black people. Even in the "poor" sections of town everyone is conspicuously white. It's just plain weird.

@brooklyn_codger-- there were some Vietnamese doctors of "color" who didn't know to give Dr. Jeff Corey, M.D. a wider spectrum of antibiotics until Mary stepped in.

And once we THINK we saw a black person standing in line at a diner. But that's about it for ethnic folks in Mary Worth.

Certainly there aren't anything but WASPs at Charterstone except once there was a Hispanic gardener "carlos".

So much for diversity in Moy's world!

You know, I really thought it was going to be that Lonnie was gay, and could no longer live a lie, but of course that would have been interesting, and even plausible...but wait! Perhaps he falls in love with his friend as he nurses him back to health! Just like Mary Worth and Dr. Jeff! There's hope for my pet theory yet. Plus it would be another failed attempt to be 'topical', with the recent reversal of the gay marriage ban in California.

Mary Worth said...

"Black people? Oh, you silly beans! That's like being frightened of the Boogie Man or the Easter Bunny, or some other fictional creature like ghosts or a sober Irishman!"

Vicki said...

@theokotos: He may still turn out to be gay. The other day Lonnie said he and his cousin were "CLOSER than brothers". Isn't the usual expression, "we were as close AS brothers"?? hmmmm...

I think Lonnie need look no further than his own wife for locating the "slime" that killed Richie! Truth is, Lonnie, the shooter was aiming for YOU...and she missed.

Steve_J_23 said...

Or maybe Lonnie's wife was crazy and had to be locked up in the attic, so he abandoned her to run off with Catherine in the moors... still hanging on to my Wuthering Heights theory...

Dave in Parma said...

...and in his dying gasp, Richie muttered one lonesome word: "Rosebud."

Lonnie has been drinking himself silly all these years trying to figure it out.

The artwork on this strip is as stupid as the story line. Can Giella ONLY show poor people living in patched up rooms with small pictures scattered about?

Sudden scenes of violence and mayhem can be disturbing. So it's comforting to know that in the absence of cracked walls and trash, there will never be a drive-bye shooting. Child abandonment never happens without crooked pictures, torn clothing, or untrimmed grass. And without at least one liquor store paper bag, there will never be a car accident.

Maude Findlay said...

Actually, with the cracked walls, tiny pictures, tattered clothing and horn-rimmed glasses, Mary Worth is starting to look like a wannabe hipster neighborhood in Brooklyn.

Everybody! Clap your hands! Now who can describe, in 10 words or less, the best way to illustrate the abode of a poor person? Winner gets a shopping spree at Maisie's.

just show empty malt liquor bottles lots of chicken bones and mangy cats on the floor plus leak in the ceiling thats poor

The pictures on the wall have to be hung at an angle (to connote Not Caring), and the brands on the beer cans must be generic.
