Gentle reader, there is an important lesson here somewhere about the bitter fruits of revenge. Vigilante-ism may look fun, but it is not. There is no joy to be found in getting so drunk on grief, anger, and whatever they serve in a highball glass these days that your shirt buttons come undone and your head spins itself right outside of your comic strip.
Today's Full Strip

In a supposedly seedy part of town, I find it odd that the bar, with it's neat pink facade and its suit garbed denizens, represents a low point. sure, the guy can't dress himself without help, but that's just dumb, not drunk.
This particular storyline has reached a new low in Moy-dom. I mean, the strip has always lacked a certain element of common sense, but this one is just over the top.
The lack of communication between characters is also a hallmark of Moy's world, but in this strip, why didn't the mother just explain to the kid why the father took off? Would have saved years of trauma for Dr Mike...
@tuffenuff: whew, sounds like you had a rough week, there! Hope things are looking up for you soon! ((hug)) Yep, Mary Worth & Me is THE place to be for cheering up and having a few chuckes! I had to put my very beloved cat (14 y.o.) to sleep 8/10 and am missing her terribly. Likewise, I find this blog comforting when I'm sad!
I think Lonnie is about to wrap up this pathetic tale and head on home. Looks like he's pulled out a comb and tidied himself up a bit to look nice for Fred.
With all the father issues around here lately, should we be concerned about Moy herself? Just asking...
Mike and Lonnie have been on that bench all week talking and we haven't once seen the omniscient squirrel. He sees everything in Santa Royale.
So, let me get this straight- Mike finding out that his father left he and his mother penniless in their crumbling hovel because was a drunken unsuccessful vigilante will make him see that he CAN find love with Jenna? I see... I guess that's why shrinks get paid the big bucks, huh?
In Latin America, vigilantes are a sweet variation of croissants. They are long and thin, with sugar on top. Yep, that about describes Lonnie.
While Lonnie may spiral into alcoholism, I am smugly satisfied that my Belt Theory still holds. It postulates that any male Mary Worth character, be he snooty waiter, lowly bum or high-achieving professional, is issued a standard 1.5" darkish belt with smooth lightish buckle. This accessory must be cinched snugly at the natural waist and worn at all times - preferable with hideous electric-blue pants or orange suits.
It's a beautiful thing!
Have we all been misreading Karen Moy? Could she secretly be some sort of avant garde performance artist, testing the aesthetic limits of comic strip readers? Does she have some master plan to downward-shift our very definition of acceptable quality levels in storytelling? If so, what nefarious ends do these means justify?
