Best Twilight Zone Ever!
Today's Full Strip
Why is Liza Minelli taking a bubble bath on the wing of Mary's plane?
And who's the guy next to Mary? Is he pinned to his seat by the G-force of the plane? Or maybe he's just pretending to be a statue so Mary won't talk to him.
Hey, it's Jan Skylar of the Channel 5 Married News team.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YHlbuqP3uoFor your health!
Back up here: a dear "friend?"That's a bit like me flirting with the college girls from the local pub. They smile for tips and tell me their stories, then get on with their lives. No contact, whatever, follows. Then: OMG! Life events! To the bus station!!1!
I just read through the last few days posts, thinking I might want to comment on Mary's shiny, tight black leather skirt in Monday's panel two, when I came across a heartbreaker.Thorpnotized, please don't go! You are bright and witty, and one of the reasons (for what it's worth) I decided to stop lurking and start posting.
Ha ha ha, Wanders, "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" instantly came to my mind, too! Too bad Mary's seatmate is not Rod Serling. (Actually, I think he looks like Jeff - what's up with than?)Someone near and dear to me who is a MW devotee but reluctant to post gave me permission to post his idea: "Rumor has it that the big announcement in NYC will be that Gina has become Gino and Bobby has become Bobbie. The Village People will provide the entertainment for the new couple. Mary W. has been asked to lead in the singing of YMCA."And now a public service announcement: Thorpnotized, please come back! Your posts have been gems, and we need your humor and insight.
@meg - how funny, my first thought this morning was to wonder why Gina was taking a bubble bath outside of Mary's window. Hmm, it wouldn't be a party celebrating a pregnancy, would it? Surely Mary wouldn't be overly scandalized.
That is the funniest panel I have ever seen. Gina's giant head floating in the clouds. Bet that ponytail knocks a few planes right outts the sky.The man next to Mary looks like Inflatable Jeff, her ever present travel partner.Mary is flying all the way to New York just to find out that Gina is engaged? What a waste of money.
In my previous post I forgot to mention that our local "music of your life" radio station played "Gina" by Johnny Mathis the other day. How coincidental/scary is that? Wanders, how about "Gina" for the Charterstone Jukebox?
Given that Bobby proposed to Gina six months ago as they were driving off into the sunset in his landyacht, I think Mary would know about their engagement by now. Also, Mary never said she was going to NYC, she just said "New York." I hope she can fit in a visit to my cousins' organic dairy farm (Engelbert Farms) in Nichols.icired reditai = I cried red tail
Thanks to all the supportive comments from my fellow Worthiversians, I am back. Besides, how could I NOT comment on today's strip? At first glance, I thought Dr. Jeff had changed his mind and was accompanying Mary after all. But then I remembered that his eyes are brown, not blue. Same hair though. (The coloration of Gina's bangs is awful, by the way.)Whether the party is either for an engagement or a baby shower, Mary will show up without a gift! Fortunately, she has packed an emergency all-occasion casserole in her carry-on bag.
Thorpnotized/Hodces Dirchnic, welcome back!! "Emergency all-occasion casserole" - hahahahaha!
Welcome back, Thorp! Now hold it, though. Do you all realise that Gina and Bobby must have been living together in NYC for the past six months? "Living in sin", Mary might call it. Is Moy so hip that she's including sin-living couples in her story? And Chester is right. Why would Mary be flying to NYC to hear an engagement announcement? Why wouldn't she go to the wedding, instead. UNLESS this "announcement" event will turn into a wedding...By the way, am I the only member of the Worthiverse old enough (and demented enough) to remember a Mary-story from the 1960's in which a young girl with short hair and driving a Beetle (the original, "uncool" ones) had a baby out of wedlock? Which she kept. The story-line was so scandalous for the time. Maybe Moy'll bring back the character...It'd certainly beat any of these lame characters and story-lines.
Maybe the big announcement is that Bobby is being traded to Santa Royale Casserole-Eaters or whatever their mascot is. And Gina is going buy Diner and run it, and will provide free cofee for Mary for life.Good to have you back Thorp.
*ROFL*Best "Mary Worth & Me" post ever! Shatner/gremlin reference FTW!!
Between Mary's, "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet", and some bizarre mental trauma Thorpnotized seems to be having, this is all just a tad too off-the-dial to stick with. I think I need a break!
Yay Thorpnotized, sooo glad you're back!!And I see Jeff has decided to join Mary after all. Surely he must have pondered my comment yesterday about Mary "skating" with Frank the last time she went to NY. I would totally, totally freak out if I saw that out my plane window! (I'm what you would call a "nervous" flyer!)
Thorp, glad you're back in the melee! Now, let's collectively will Mary into a ridiculous situation. I'm hoping for a ground stop at the airport where she'll have to be on the plane for 12 hours. There's a scene in "Airplane"...you know the one.
I'm suffering from severe whiplash due to the new story arc starting at such breakneck speed. Normally I would predict that Mary sits in the plane for a few weeks, but I have a feeling this story will continue recklessly fast. Things might not slow down until we find a diner somewhere in NY and a good cup of steaming something. Also, I would like to nominate today's panel for PANEL OF THE YEAR!
Did Thorp leave? I didn't notice a day without a post.
Glad you're staying, Thorp.I had a thought this morning, and boy was it depressing. What if Mary arrives to find the party is for her?! There's a big banner that says "THANKS MARY" and then Gina has to tell everyone the whole story, which takes about 4 weeks. Or maybe Gina's pregnant and they're going to name it Mary, no matter what it is. And why am I doing this to myself? I may need therapy. 0,o
My first thought was, "What kind of commercial aircraft has a window that big?" Then I remembered, a 1929 Ford Trimotor.http://touring-ohio.com/2011/06/1929-ford-tri-motor-plane-rides/
Does this mean Coach Hammy McFist will be a the "event" also?
@Hermite: a "thanks, Mary" party??!?Stop scaring me!
What may happen is that we see Mary returning in tomorrow's strip (with a "one week has passed" box) and then we get to hear Mary tell Jeff all the wonderful things that occurred in NY while Jeff stares stoically at the TV in the hallway.
I absolutely love the fact that I've been away from the column (not by choice) since Gina & Bobby first reconnected and see that I really haven't missed much at all.... Bless you, Karen Moy, bless you!!
@Limber Joe - another problem with the windows on Mary's plane is that they are square. Square windows on planes was a very bad idea as they break because of the stress in the corners, that's why plane windows ae oval. Good luck Mary on your flight . . .
Good for Gina and Bobby. They're happy and don't know any other way to be.
That's not D-Dan Smithers sitting next to Mary is it? Alas, I think D-Dan also has brown eyes. It would be fun to have Mary "fix" D-Dan on her way to NY though.
Mary's BEST acid trip EVER!!!! This reminds me of a 30 Rock episode where Liz Lemon took too many muscle relaxers before flying and then thought she was sitting next to Oprah Winfrey for the entire flight.
I just can't wait to see of Gina has her ponytail.
How did Gina know where to send the "invitation" since she only spoke to Mary a few times at Diner - I don't think Mary ever told her what her last name was. And Mary was irked because Gina split without even saying good-bye to her, some friend.
is mary flying first class since you only see two people or tomm they will show frugal mary is in coach
Hey Wanders, what's up with the Anonymous stalker of Thorpnotized? Two bizarro posts today. Not cool.
