I think I would re-write this sentence to make it a little less awkward: "Mother, Tom and I want to move into a larger place so we can all cohabit comfortably together... AFTER TOM AND I ARE MARRIED!!"
Today's Full Strip
"Cohabit comfortably"? Eww, eww, eww! Please make this storyline (and the unfortunate mental images) go away. Really, if Beth writes the way she talks, her romance novel was probably self-published. On a mimeograph machine.
The unfortunate use of "cohabit" begs the question of what exactly is going on there at Charterstone. Here are the three definitions from Dictionary.com:1. to live together as if married, usually without legal or religious sanction.2. to live together in an intimate relationship.3. to dwell with another or share the same place, as different species of animals.
Mary: I think I can help!Mary takes them to a larger condo, just being vacated by Todd Parkham, whose father recently died. He is walking by with some mementos.Beth: I am sorry about your recent loss. Todd: Yes. Thank you.Beth: Can I help in any way? Sometimes tragedy can bring new hope. And friends!Todd: I could sure use a friend!Beth: Oh, Todd!Todd: Oh, Beth!Mary: As Streisand said, "People who need people are the luckiest people in the world!"
"Cohabit comfortably together" is Moyish enough, but it's really no more demented than "Condo living suits all our lifestyles."
Words to make Antonin Scalia, Samuel Alito, and Clarence Thomas apoplectic: "Mother, Tom and I want to move into a larger place...so we can all cohabit comfortably together!"If there was a Worthy Award for most awkward dialogue, both panels of today's strip would be shoo-ins. Holy moly!
Elinor has a lifestyle?
In that second panel Mary's face looks none too happy at the prospect of helping them with their "larger condo" lifestyle. (The problem is, the condo she has in mind for them has, well... a few BEDBUGS...but she's hoping they won't notice.)
Why doesn't Elinor just stay where she is, and Beth move in with Tom? What kind of newlywed couple wants ol' mom in the same abode?--Beagle Vet
If this story is a romance and if we're wrapping things up, when does Tom take off Beth's glasses?
The level of gratitude on Beth's part for Mary's help in finding a larger condo is a little over the top. Hey Beth, it's not like Mary is giving you a kidney or anything. Nor did she help your mother realize she needs to let you and "the love of your life" have a life of your own without her constant presence. Now THAT would be worth eternal gratitude!!
SUNDAYIs this Summary Sunday or Segue Sunday? I’m confused. Could this story continue? And will we meet Julia Johnson along with husband Jeremy Johnson and kiddies Jim, John, Jack, Jill, Jamie, Jennie, Josephine, Jeremia, Jeddedia and Jacqueline? OF COURSE a 4-bedroom house won't be big enough for that brood! The question is, will the Johnsons be able to get the smell of their pet jackalope out of the pink drapes in time for TomBethDear and Elinor to cohabit comfortably?
Btw, kudos to the coloring monkeys today! Not only is everyone wearing the same colors they wore the last few days, but everyone's outfit matches - down to their yellow, purple and red shoes.
Are they any relation to Bonnie?Bonnie Johnson?
"Once again, we owe you, Mary"Yes, Beth, you will live indefinitely in a retirement condo with your creepy mother and the boyfriend who proposed to her, and you have Mary to thank.Mary had better watch out. You know what they say about payback...
Apartment 2G? Wait'll Tommie, Margo, and Luanne hear the good news!
Don't really care about the story anymore, but am totally digging Beth's fireworks shirt. It's never too early to dress for Independence Day. Hey, maybe she's being passive-aggressive toward Elinor?
MondayTomDear is so occupied holding the hand of his new missus, he's unable to carry even a feather duster into the new Harpman homestead. The struggling Mr. Alora can mow down all three of those dolts with one good push. Go, Mr. Alora, go!For a nanosecond I felt cheated at missing the Harpman nuptials. I quickly realized that I couldn't handle anymore of BethDear and TomDear prattling on about finding the love of his/her life, so I'm okay with it. I would like to assist Mr. Alora with his pushing, however.
Sometimes Moy moves at the speed of light. Even a quick trip to Las Vegas takes a little time, not to mention buying a condo that was "not yet on the market" yesterday.Notice how Tom Harpman has completely lost his identity, and is now just Beth's husband? Which is marginally better, I suppose, than being Elinor's son-in-law.Pool party tomorrow?
@fauxprof - July 1 at 8:40 AMAt first I thought "probably not a pool party... just a walk through the park with Toby as Mary recaps the whole Beth/Elinor/Tom matter." But since so much time has elapsed (Beth and Tom married, the Johnsons moved out of their condo and the Harpmans + 1 are moving in), I'm sure Mary has already caught Toby up on what has transpired at some point. So yeah, maybe a pool party. Here's hoping anyway!
Oh wait! I just noticed that they're entering building A. Yesterday, Mary said the Johnsons (and their growing family) were in 2G. Is the new storyline going to be about the Harpmans (Harpmen?) + 1 moving into the wrong apartment? Sounds boring enough for this strip.
Will we ever see Wilbur Weston again? Based on my "prove you're not a robot" words now, tomorrow we're going to be introduced to Shelden Emerbil. He'll be holding a drink with a little umbrella in it at the pool party.
