Right? She even skimps on her charity to the NY bellringer, tossing in a few coins to 2K's bills.

Perhaps, as part of her adventure Rediscovering New York, Mary will buy or be bought an "I Heart NY" shirt of her very own. Or a tasteful scarf of same.

Geez, looking at his mug in panel one, Mary ought to remind LBS Ken Kensington that "God loves a cheerful giver." Then again maybe he is stunned at discovering his long lost twin brother...

Those are not coins being tossed by Mary, they're tokens from the Santa Royale Transit System. Although Mary still has love in her heart for New York, she has pain in her elbow from her encounter with the mugger.

It's only a matter of time before K2 and Mary strap on skates at Rockefeller Center.

Mary Worth certainly helps me keep up to date - how else would I know that chic Manhattanites wouldn't be seen in midtown unless they're wearing white-lensed sunglasses and an I[HEART]NY sweatshirt, tastefully coordinated with an overcoat and mom jeans?

The kettle tripod grows, Santa shrinks (except for his hand), and the nearby buildings are reduced to a distant skyline. Just a typical day in the Worthiverse.

Where is Mary's "I heart Santa Royale" button or shirt. Come on, Mary, show your Santa Royale pride!

it just occurred to me that Ken Kensignton's blazer matches Mayor McCheese's pants.

Three pennies might have been a generous contribution when she was "Apple Mary" back in the thirties, but it seems a little chintzy now. Someone who can jet off to an Arizona resort, then turn right around and fly to New York should be dropping in some folding cash.

Why I bet even the mugger had an "I heart New York" tee shirt under his electric blue cloak! Man, those New Yorkers sure know how to rock the latest fashions.

Hey, Rookie Santa, rule number one is don't ever turn your back on the kettle. Rule number two is don't fall for the trick where the distinguished gentleman pretends to put cash in the kettle but takes it out instead.

Hi Wanders, A big fan of your site, but have never really commented till now and I must say this:Being a New Yorker (transplanted in Maine...long story!) I can say for a fact that no TRUE New Yorker would be caught dead with an I (heart) NY tee shirt or a I (heart) NY button. It SCREAMS tourist. Maybe Karen Moy needs to go to NY and see how real New Yorkers live. NY is so multi-cultural and I've only seen one person of color in this strip. Maybe Moy and Uncle Joe haven't been to NY since the 1930's because the artwork an the writing is apparent.

Wednesday

I don't know where Karen Moy lives, but her syndicate, King Features, is there. Maybe the rest of you NYC people are overlooking the forest for the trees and missing a city that's "vibrant, exciting, teeming with life" (including mugging trolls).

Those children (?) by the window are awfully creepy.

KitKat- the children are creepy, the reindeer looks rabid, and the Anthony Weiner look-a-like elf is a nice touch.

Looks like K2 belched in the first panel!

With DOSC having won a Major Award like the dad from A Christmas Story, I wasn't too surprised to see the children transfixed by the department store windows ala Randy and Ralphie during the family trip downtown.

KitKat said...

@meg, I agree - everyone/everything in the vicinity of that window is unsettling. It's a Christmas nightmare!
