Mary Worth 1751

The Museum of Natural History is like Mary's kitchen, ever shifting and changing. In panel one, Ken and Mary are clearly standing in front of a skinny-necked bambiraptor, and in panel two, it has changed into a one-legged gasosaurous. Ha ha ha ha. Okay. I'm a dino-nerd. Sorry.

Today's Full Strip

Ken is such a romantic. What better place to woo a fair (if elderly) lady than a roomful of dinosaur skeletons? Perhaps it's for contrast. If he still had a voice, he could serenade her...

Younger than T-Rex are you,
Sweeter than Triceratops.
In the Cretaceous
I'll be flirtatious
Without stop.

It does appear that Joe wanted to throw everything he had into drawing that forground dinosaur. I venture to say that it must have been a refreshing change from people stuffing food in their faces.

Forget about it, Ken, Mary is NOT going to stay with you. Having concurrent lives in NYC and Santa Royale would be too complicated for her. You would have had better luck with that groupie autograph seeker at Rockefeller Plaza.

One more thing, Ken: Your coat and scarf are morphing into a bathrobe.

So, Mary's going to spend her New York vacation being courted by a has-been actor? She isn't going to contact any of her other New York friends? What about Gina or John Dill? What about that friend who lost a loved one on 9/11?

I feel sorry for the poor couple in the upper left corner of the first panel, who have hung themselves. Probably because they listened in on the "stimulating" conversation Mary and Ken are having. (I know I have felt this way sometimes, most recently after that week-long pizza feeding frenzy.)

What delicious irony that these two are talking about living in a room full of dead things.

"Oh, Mary! New York is full of old fossils! What's one more?"

"I have a life in Santa Royale. You can have a life with me here too!...I'm falling in love with New York all over again! And I think I'm falling in love…….I discovered Santa Royale and found peace. Peace can be found ANYWHERE, Mary. It's all what you make of it…… This city is fun to visit but I'm not sure it's for me anymore. Don't rule out New York as your new home again……I love Santa Royale, but I love New York too. Stay in New York with me…… I love New York. Maybe I can persuade you to stay……I'll miss New York. So don't leave"....Will she stay or will she go? I havent' been this excited since waiting to find out who shot J.R. But then I had to wait months. Uhhh.....

I never thought I'd say this, but please take me back to the beauty of nature.

Or even Wilbur, doing his best on a ham sammich.

Those people who hanged themselves in panel one--their ghosts appear in panel two. That Uncle Joe- always thinking.

I've been reading this strip since I was a kid (sad, isn't it?), and only now do i find that Mary actually has a life in Santa Royale.

When do we get to see it?

On the bright side, less than 12 hours until we get to view the first platitude panel of 2014!

Any chance for the Clash song "Should I Stay or Should I Go" to be put on the Charterstone jukebox?

"You can have a life here, too! But how would I know, since I don't seem to have one?"

I feel cheated! No tableau of characters and floating heads to wish us a Happy New Year?
Sure, Ken-Ken's endless endless sniveling is amusing for a bit, but I really wanted something more.

I'm with @heydave at 11:01 AM. This seems to be ending with a whimper, not a bang. Mary promises to "think about entertaining a possibility" - how vague is that? While K2 settles for the crummiest of crumbs, Mary will high-tail it back to Santa Royale and Dr. Jeff, who has also settled for an occasional meal at the Bum Boat. Mary Worth, bi-coastal heart breaker.

Mr. Giella has turned a bit randy on us today, though, judging by the legs in the pink mini. Is that Miley Cyrus at the museum?

Ken – stop being such a pathetic whiner! No woman in her mid-140s, no matter how adventurous, will just up and move from one coast to the other because she “can have a life” there. But wait, what ever made sense in this comic strip? Maybe this is exactly what Mary will do?! Hahahaha, won’t DOSC be surprised when Mary tells her that she decided to become a permanent house guest. Oh, the fun these two gals will have!

@Shmoopie at 12:34 PM, just picture Mary and DOSC singing "Bosom Buddies" a la Angela Lansbury and Bea Arthur:

Notice how Mary hasn't once mentioned her "involvement" with Dr. Jeff to K2 as one possible reason she won't relocate? And she isn't seeing how she's leading poor Ken on either? I think she's wearing her hair helmet too snugly. It's cutting off the circulation to her brain. Or maybe she's just a self-centered jerk. Whichever, poor K2...

@go home already: Poor K2?! The man is about to dodge a bullet when Mary blows him off and returns to Santa Royale to tease Dr. Jeff. K2 is the luckiest guy in the Worthiverse.
