I have to go with your interpretation of Mary's inner monologue, Wanders. Practically any other interpretation is just too creepy and/or sinister such that trying to make any kind of sense of it leads down the rabbit hole.
I don't know about everybody else, but I'm still reeling from the notion that a high-powered Manhattan professional couple would drag their tot across the country to "vacation" at a dowdy condo complex, however noted the rose garden. I can't wait for their snooty reaction to Diner and even the fine cuisine at the Bum Boat.
And for those who'e been on the edge of their seats - yes, Sunday does see the return of the Barbie-like Flower Fairies. God help us all.
Those fairies bear a strange resemblance to the Cottingly fairies which were all the rage when Mary was a youngish girl. Hope Moy is not violating any copyrights.
The fairies in today's paper have mysteriously become younger -- more Skipper than Barbie. This poor kid really is hallucinating. I think she may need a wider range of anti-psychotics.
@fauxprof- What's that you're saying- that Mary was involved with Conan Doyle? My heavens, what would Edward VII have had to say about that (he was known to be jealous)?
Did Mary serve Salmon Squares at this shindig? With the heavy hallucinating this poor child is experiencing I wonder if the Salmon might have been mercury laden or had "turned"!?

Cottingley, that is.

@meg, are those the fairies that Arthur Conan Doyle vouched for? Stands to reason that Mary was involved!

PS- I could swear one of today's fairies is the spawn of the Central Park Troll.
Argh! Sunday's strip does nothing to advance the "plot." Where are we? At Apartment 3-G?

No remember it was Chicken Salad squares for the win!
I tell you what, that girl has drug issues and she hasn't even met Tommy yet.
On another front, my wife and made a really involved cake for her father this weekend. I felt more than a little like John Dill with my muse!
I must get help...
I think Mary's "evolved" comment is an underhanded slur toward Olive's sometime compressed Cro-Magnon forehead. That's just rude.
I would pay good money to see one of those faeries pull out a bat and bonk Olive in the face.
