Just because something doesn't last forever, doesn't mean it doesn't feel like it will never end.
"But I don't have any photos of Zak and I together. Darn, guess I should have gotten that tattoo after all."
LOL, Wanders. I wondered the same thing. Just how vast is Mary's condo that it has a cliche-type attic, complete with iron daybed and heavy wooden trunk?Today's Boldface Haiku is titled "Hmm. Is That Anything Like 'Hammer Time'?"Regret; doesn't.Worth time.
It would have been nice to see a different photo of Mary and Jack, June! Although now that I've gotten a second look, it appears that Mary's photo album is really a coloring book. Let's color Jack's shirt with orange and brown stripes and make Mary's hair chartreuse.Note to @fauxprof, this morning I heard about Mystery Science Theater 3000 coming to Netflix, and I thought the same thing you posted last evening.
Mary has helpfully provided Iris with a platitude to use with Wilbur when he comes sniveling back.
Zak was the one who screwed up - bowling. We know that hot air ballooning, roller coasters, and beating up criminals on the boardwalk are the keys to a woman's heart. And lots and lots of bench sitting. So is Zak now hanging out at Diner flirting with the waitresses there?
Right now some perfectly happy dude is hanging out in Santa Royale, perhaps leering at passersby from his perch on the boardwalk. Little does he know that Iris is about to make a difference in his life, per Mary's advice.
DOUBLE SHOCKER!!!On Wednesday, Mary shows that she has BAD GRAMMAR!!! when she says, "This is JACK and me a few months after we got MARRIED." Dawn and I were quite horrified by THAT! Gasp!On Wednesday, Mary leads Iris into her bedroom, and on Thursday, they are both on the bed! Just how is Mary going to help Iris to forget Zak? If I were Iris, I would adjourn to the couch for Kelk muffins and weak Sanka!
FRIDAYToday's Boldface Haiku is titled "Huh?" or "The Less Said, The Better".Right! No regrets.Too short. Other benefit energy....Vice versa!Whoa. No one can drop a plot like KM.
FRIDAYWhat, no flashback showing why Mary and Jack's time together was so short? Thanks for nothing, KM.So, can we stick a fork in the Iris-Zak story?
Sorry, Evil Twin. But I believe that Jack and me is correct. If you remove Jack from the sentence it becomes "This is me a few months after we got married" which is correct. I believe the rule is to remove the other person from the sentence to determine whether to use I or me.
Sorry, Anonymous. Evil Twin is correct. Because "is" is a linking verb, you can't apply that rule. When a pronoun follows a linking verb, it must be in the nominative case, or subject form. Mary should have used "I".The only exception we may allow her is that she is using conversational grammar, and it is, by nature, less exacting.
Thanks, Nance. This being conversational grammar and knowing that Mary is never wrong, I am sure we will all be happy to give Mary our approval.
SATURDAYToday's Boldface Haiku is titled "Eternity, Hell, Purgatory: All Beedies All The Time"Dear God,Path made.Backslide--Alone!
Just when we think we're done with Iris, Tommy resurfaces! When, oh when, will Moy outgrow her fascination with the loathsome Tweedlebeedies?
P.S. I just checked back through Wanders' admirable archives. Mary told Iris (an older, dumpier Iris) that she'd send over Mr. Allora and the handtruck on June 30, 2016. It's been NINE MONTHS of Beedie angst!
@fauxprof--I hear you. I'm using the Haikus as a way to spark my own profoundly flagging interest in this comic strip. It's not really working. I'm beyond bored. Bleah. They're worse than Olive's insipidly inappropriate parents. At least when What's His Name was making cakes, they were fun to look at.
Well, duh! Of course Tommy feels so ALONE! Iris has been hanging out with Zak and his friends, but after the concert, she realized that the friends were too cool for her, so she dumped Zak, even though she really loved him, which she only realized after they shared their very first KISS, but not until AFTER they had broken up.Why does this strip always avoid drama? Wouldn't it have been great if Tommy hadn't felt so alone ... I mean, if Zak and Iris actually hung out in the apartment, making out on the couch, making goo-goo eyes at each other, talking baby talk, even ... GASP! ... doing family un-friendly activities in Iris's bedroom? Tommy would've loved to have been alone then!@Nance, I think yesterday's boldface haiku was entitled "Huh?" That is my reaction every day when I click on this strip. Amirite?
I must say, I'm surprised that Tommy has resurfaced on a Saturday. KM usually waits for a Monday to make what she likely considers a bold move. Zzzzzzzzzz.....Floating Vicodin botttle, and without a safety cap - heavens to Betsy.
I think some of you are being a bit too harsh and jaded. I am fascinated by the boring awfulness and hokeyness of this story line. My friends in Mary, embrace the tedium!
NOOOoooooo! Not Tommy again...
Looks like Tommy went Trans while Iris was busy.
Not sure if you've heard, but Iris broke up with Zak....
SUNDAYToday's Boldface Haiku is titled "Oh, Yeah! Motherhood Calls".Broke up, heartbroken I. Hurts.Time...heal. Rush help someone else.Away your. Your.Thanks. Ideas.
I don't blame Wanders for playing hookey. Absolutely nothing is happening in this strip. If it weren't for all of you fine commentators I wouldn't read the strip at all!
