Mary Worth 2765

Before any up note comes the downbeat! The anticipation is killing me! AUGHHHH!

Interesting choice of words. If he wants to pursue the relationship, he’d be thinking “continue”, not “finish”. Of course, Wilbur is a writer, and I’m sure he always chooses his words carefully.

Rimshot to @fauxprof for her comment!

Will Wilbur shampoo his hairs before taking Iris to dinner?

Today's Boldface Haiku is titled

"Clunky Cliche Roundup".

Catch up...make up!
Ups, downs.
Finish up!

Yeah, I am also puzzled by his use of the word "finish."

At any rate, this guy has tons of gall, which is a product of his spectacular lack of self-awareness.

Doesn't the fact that Wilbur is calling Iris, rather than just dropping by without warning, eliminate any kind of "AUGGHH" moment for Wilbur? Once again, Moy has whipped away the football.

Naah. He'll get her voice mail, and just let her know that "Hey, I'm back!" And "I'll be right over".

Oh, another thing. He muses, "WHEN I take Iris to dinner . . ." as if there's no possibility that she won't drop everything and leap at the chance to go out with the clown who dumped her for a woman half their age.

Man, I hope she crushes him.

I see three possibilities, the first 2 of which will cause El Tonto to go all Charlie Brown:

1) Zak answers Iris' phone (AAIIIIIGH!)
2) Iris says "who?" When El Tonto says "this is Wilbur" (AAIIIIIGH!)
3) Zak sees another male caller on the caller ID, not realizing what he's up against, and jealously leaves Iris (we go AAIIIIIGH).

Maybe Dr. Jeff and Wilbur can begin to travel, kind of an unrequited love world tour.

Well, Iris dumped Wilbur first and hooked up with a guy half her age (she just didn't tell him because after the first Zak Attack she seems to have assumed they were back together despite telling him they were taking a break before).

So I'm not really feeling the judgement on him *except* in the sense that any sensible reasonably attractive woman would have better options than Wilbur Weston.

Andrew Leal- Perhaps you should check out Mary Worth 1790, (which is coincidentally Mary’s birth year) before you ascribe ‘sensible’ and ‘reasonably attractive’ to Iris.

April 10, 2014, The Many Faces of Iris, by Joe Giella, and curated by Wanders

Meg: Reasonably attractive, compared to Wilbur (or other Giella ladies), probably. Sensible, not so much, true, especially given the Tommy melodrama; that's why they were together to begin with.

It's frightening to consider that perhaps the most functional couple in the strip (apart from a couple of long ago wanderers; my mom was a big fan of Pete and Willow from many many moons ago) is Toby and Ian.
