Mary Worth 3221

I need not remind you that this dream sequence is no less bizarre than anything else in this strip.

OK, now we know that this dream sequence is a definite nightmare. Part of me wants to make another Panel of the Year nomination, and another part just wants to unsee it. Libby, please do that cat “wake up and feed me” thing. Friends don’t let friends dream about having
Wilbur-clone quads after 60.

Okay, I was too hasty in proclaiming yesterday's "?" Panel of the Year. Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa! I'll just say that today's hellish nightmare should be a strong nominee for the award, but we don't know what's around the bend. This has been an atypical week, starting on Sunday with no opening quotation and introducing actual new material instead of regurgitating the week. Maybe KM ate a hot and spicy salad too.

Can we title Estelle's bizarre nightmare scenario "First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes Wilbur with a baby carriage"? Even under the influence of that salad, Estelle is one screwed up cookie! A full-court muffin press will be useless.

Just for the Record...The Guinness Book of WORLD records.

"The oldest mother is Maria del Carmen Bousada Lara (Spain, b. 5 January 1940), who gave birth by Cesarean section to twin boys, Christian and Pau, aged 66 years 358 days at the Sant Pau hospital, Barcelona, Spain on 29 December 2006.
Maria received IVF treatment in America (by lying that her age was 55 years), after being rejected for treatment in Spain. She is unmarried."

You go Estelle!

I'm also agreeing this is the panel of the year. I think it's the panel of the century. I don't know what KM and JB have been drinking, but they've been on a roll for nearly two weeks.

I've had some wacky dreams, but nothing as insane as this one. Why oh why would anyone want one Wilbur, let alone five? The best is that they all have bad combovers. Also, what's up with the boxing gloves? If these were my kids, they would be at the nearest church in a basket, with a note that said "please take care of my four babies".

Why would Iris have a dream like this? I remember her saying she was 60 when she joined Silverdaters, so she is WAY past her baby making prime. I'm with fauxprof. Libby, wake her up before her dream gets any crazier.

Yep, hands down, this is the panel of the year. Clearly Estelle has never met Dawn, otherwise why would she be dreaming about having kids with Wilbur?

Yahoonski said...

Say what you will of these dialogue-free panels, but they're not giving Nance much to work with.

Why are the tykes wearing boxing gloves?

Libby is behind all of this, using mind control to warp Estelle's dreams.

There are definitely going to be some strong contenders for the Panel of the Year Award, and every one of them will feature Wilbur.

Are Moy and Brigman on LSD? I never wanted to take LSD -- one reason being I was afraid I'd start seeing horrors like this.

The boxing gloves are a nice touch.

Now off you go, Estelle. Time to change four sets of diapers while Wilbur sits in his recliner watching TV and swilling scotch.

Sorry, Estelle. No litter of Wilbur puppies for you; you were spayed years ago.

I am not sure how I feel after seeing this. So much wrongness.

I'm glad that Estelle has decided to go with cloth diapers. One question: is she beast-feeding the the Wilburuplets ?

Anonymous said...

Correction: Breast-feeding, not beast-feeding. Although considering what they look like, maybe beast-feeding is a more appropriate term.

We ask; Moy and Brigman...deliver.

Gina said...

How high would you have to be even to think of this, never mind creating and publishing it?

Jerry Smith said...

For the first time ever, I am unironically enjoying Mary Worth. Go Moy! Go Wilbur!

LouiseF said...

Darn! One more, and she would have tied with the Dionne quintuplets! Perhaps the dream is telling her fame and fortune will come her way if she only stays with Wilbur and his boxing glove clad progeny.

The babies with adult faces remind me of a Three Stooges short. Those boxing gloves make perfect props for some slapstick. Moe, Larry, Curly, and Shemp all in one scene.

The boxing gloves, I assume, are "inspired" by Wilbur's wanting to watch a documentary on boxing for their first date after however long he was in Mozambique.

I laughed long and hard when I saw that last panel. On the one hand, they haven't really dated that much, right? Why would she be dreaming (nightmaring? Is that a word?) about marrying him? That's weird. On the other hand, OMG, that panel is so horribly hysterical. Yep, panel of the year, unless there's something more amazing to come. Maybe in her dream, Libby will walk in, as big as a person and on two legs, and say, "Meow! By which I mean, wake the hell up and end this horror! Also, feed me!"

Hey, lmjb1964 - Excellent catch on the boxing gloves! I don't think anyone else here had figured that out! My take was that it was to prevent the quads from pulling out their combovers.

You know, like any normal person, I occasionally scream at each day’s Mary Worth — it’s a primal thing, you all certainly understand — but I do hafta admire the bat-I’d-use-a-profanity-here-but-I-won’t-put-Wanders-in-such-a-position-craziness of Estelle’s dream sequence. I am perfectly, deliriously nutso about every panel.

lmjb1964 said...

WOW! What was in that food that Estelle ate? Or that Moy and Brigman ate? This dream sequence is AMAZING!

KitKat said...

SATURDAY
June must have relished the opportunity to display her comic-book chops. Coming Sunday: "OOF!"

Estelle and Wilbur's eyes today look like something out of an old sci-fi B movie, and the quads may be from Children of the Damned. This has been quite a week in the Worthiverse!

I’m holding my breath for tomorrow. Even if it’s the usual Sunday Summary, seeing all the week’s nightmare dreamscape panels in one place would be awesome! Particularly if Estelle wakes up screaming!

LouiseF said...

Yeah, I may have to give in to that "Purchase a Print" tab to honor this week's strips. Will see what tomorrow's summary brings. What Carl Jung could do with this dream sequence...

I got Sundays comic early.......it's a doozy !!!!!!!!

As dreamy as this old Blue Jam bit: https://youtu.be/XVfqkNfNBVA

SUNDAY

Whoa. A mass of red, fighting baby Wilburs. That's a nightmare for sure. What happened to adult Wilbur? And where did those other babies come from?

I love the Batman–comic book sound effect. And do you think Moy told Brigman what to draw, or did she just tell her to do something disturbing.

Speaking of disturbing, Trapper John, that clip you shared qualifies. Never heard of Blue Jam. I'm not sure I want to listen to more of it or not!

"NO!"

Now that's the most intelligent thing Estelle has said or thought in a long time.

-- S. McW.

Sandi Ego said...

It's like Pink Elephants on Parade from Dumbo!

KitKat said...

I suggest dubbing today’s penultimate panel “Estelle in hell.”

Arthur/er never affected Estelle the way Wilbur has.

fauxprof said...

Close enough to “Estelle wakes up screaming” that I feel validated. This has been a wild ride, and I’d love it to continue. Instead of going crying to Mary for muffins and platitudes, it would be great if she pounded on Mary’s door, yelling “Endearing? You think that vile, drunken toad is (expletive) ENDEARING!? Not gonna happen. Estelle doesn’t know any expletives.

LouiseF said...

I can almost forgive KM's ongoing silly, sexist plots, given today's wrap up. Estelle's nightmare could be any woman's... Having multiple kids with a guy you deeply regret dating.

Anonymous said...

I just don't get this dream sequence. Estelle is OLD, why would she dream about having babies? Did Moy forget she was on Silverdaters? Why would she even dream of marriage with a guy she recently started dating? One would assume Moy thinks marriage is endgame for every relationship but she had Mary literally run from Dr. Jeff's proposal so...? What's going on!?!
But... wouldn't it be great if Estelle consents to pity s@x with Wilbur and gets pregnant at the same time Iris finds out her fatigue is caused by early(?) menopause?

MONDAY

We should take break??

I need some SPACE?????

I was so ready for Estelle to lay down the law on Wilbur. I was expecting, "Don't ever darken my door again." Once again Moy, and Estelle, disappoint.

And now, dear God, are we going to be subjected to more scenes of Wilbur singing in the showe

lmjb1964 said...

Oops, that should say, "We should take A break." I was so disappointed, I couldn't type correctly.

I also forgot to mention that I'm looking forward to BFH again, now that we have what passes for dialogue.

mr_darcy said...

MW was genuinely entertaining for two sold weeks. Could this be a sign of the End Times?

The Wilbur toddlers could be the four cockhorse men. That would make their half-sibling Dawn the Naughty Lady of Babylon. What really happened off-panel with Hugo?

I think I need to get out more.

LouiseF said...

The burning questions is who will get Mary's ear over this? Wilbur or Estelle? I fear that if it is Estelle, Mary will advise her to "let Wilbur be Wilbur", and give him a second chance. Don't do it, Estelle!!

KitKat said...

Estelle, you need to wake up and smell the coffee!
