Aha! You guessed our celebrity narrator. I've added a photo now that the cat's out of the bag.
... and now all I see is Stephen Hawkings rolling up at some Charterstone pool party, and Mary gently lecturing the 'young upstart' on his 'slouching posture' until someone gently leads her away by the elbow and quietly explains things ...
That's surprisingly similar to how I read it in my head.
