Mary Worth 301

I will tell you why I'm so excited by today's strip: for over a month, everyone except Toby has known her identity was stolen. And so each day we've been treated to a strip where nothing has happened, or a faceless voice on the phone has explained to Toby what we already know. The lack of suspense has been killing me.

But today - Today! - Toby asks the big question: What's going to happen now!? A day hasn't gone by when we haven't known exactly what was going to happen (with the possible exception of Ian taking off his shirt - that was an unpleasant surprise). But today, it is a new dawn: What is going to happen now? Certainly, this telephone call must come to its merciless end; certainly, we can conclude a strip without an extreme close up on Toby's distraught face; certainly, SOMETHING can happen NOW! Or, er, tomorrow.

Today's full strip.

I don't think that Toby should worry too much. As soon as the thief who stole her identity discovers how vacous she is, they will send it right back before they lose any brain cells.

Wanders, you seem a tad optimistic... the bank could say, "just relax for now, we'll call you in a couple weeks with an update." Then nothing will happen for now.

Personally, I'm giving Mary one more week off. I anticipate her return on Sunday.

What's next? From the reaction of Toby so far I believe we can look forward to her throwing herself down on the floor and writhing in agony as she pulls out her own hair and tears her clothing!
Do we know for a fact Ian and Toby do not share this credit card?

What I'm dying to know is if the bank will DO anything - thus far they pretty much have a "well, sucks to be you" attitude. Maybe Ian will pick up and go to Canada to be with the new Toby, the one who is now $18,000 richer.

"certainly, SOMETHING can happen NOW! Or, er, tomorrow."

Isn't that something we masochist readers tell ourselves every single day?

Again: "now" = "4-6 weeks."

Wow...the disembodied bank voice sure does repeat itself a lot. But, then, in this strip, everyone seems to. Creepy...

Anyway, the way things are looking now, I'd expect this phone call to go on at least a couple more days, if not a week. After all, this is Mary Worth we're talking about here.

Has her identity indeed been stolen, or is she the victim of unauthorized credit card use? If so, she's only liable for $50 — certainly nothing to anguish about. The Bank of Santa Royale doesn't seem to be very helpful, or reassuring. That's probably the most realistic part of this whole scenario.
