Mary Worth 583

The suspense is KILLING me!! Who is that yet-to-be-named officer on the gurney? Hewlett or Miller? Please let it be Hewlett because I really care about him. I'll be so much happier if Miller is the one who already died. That guy was a moron.

I'm sorry I missed posting yesterday, when we actually saw Adrian doing doctor stuff. It was an historic moment, but we took the kids on a trip to Gettysburg. Hard to know which historic moment is the most significant, but with all due respect to Mary Worth, I'm going to go with Gettysburg. By the way, if you haven't visited in the last few years, the new museum is absolutely amazing!

Did we know before today that the shakedown was at the "Santaroymart Warehouses" or was that top-secret as well?

Anonymous said...

Santaroymart? Really? Not sure where to begin parsing.

tuffenuf said...

Sam Walton would be spinning in his grave right now! "Santaroymart" Indeed!

Did Moy add this for comic effect, or is it a serious attempt to show that the Santa Royale Warehouses are not bonded port warehouses like in "24"?

And why, why, WHY does sinister trouble ALWAYS take place in a warehouse?

Chester said...

Santaroymart!!! I love it!! But should have this been mentioned earlier in the story, perhaps on the CARTEL NEWSLETTER BROCHURE????

We STILL don't know who's on the gurney; all Santa Royale cops are blonde Ken-dolls. How long is the suspense going to last?

By the way, is Adrian a surgeon? Will they gown-her-up and send her in to operate on her, her Ken-doll fiance?

Glad you and the family enjoyed Gettysburg. I've never been there, despite taking a lot of Civil War seminars. It's never too early to expose children to history.

I don't care who dies anymore. I feel we've all lost out in this storyline.
Gettysburg IS fantastic, and the best deal there is the battlefield tours from the Parks service who drive your own car. We were out for a little over 2 hours and learned a HUGE amount for $55 plus a tip. You do need to book online in advance, but really thought it was tremendous value. Ghost walks ... not so much .....

viscosity, thanks for the head's up on the Park Service driving tour of the battlefield! I'm going to put that in my travel folder for when I do get there.

Clearly Santaroymart's warehouses were ripe for those evil H-Town dealers to infiltrate, since the Santaroymart employees make sub-standard wages and don't have good benefits. A few pieces of silver and those downtrodden warehouse workers turned a blind eye to the evils of heroin marketing. And now Scott Hewlett might die. Oh, the humanity!

Brick said...

Again with the looks of terror and disgust today!
Horrific damage must have been done to Scott's face, because the rest of him looks perfectly fine to me.

I've long suspected that facial transplants are routinely performed at Mountview, perhaps even on an outpatient basis, so I imagine they'll have Scott up-and-around in no time, and if he occasionally looks like poor, deceased Colleague Miller... well, we'll know what happened.

Moy is indeed a master of suspense, a veritable Hitchcock.

That guy in the second panel is waving a huge fist around as if to say, "let me put him out of his misery!" Fortunately, cooler heads prevail, as Scrubs Guy determines it best to "get this officer into surgery". *sigh of relief*
I just hope Mountview Hosp. maintains a safe blood supply.

Did you notice the reference to the Santaroymart warehouse(s) was PLURAL!? And yet we saw only a nearly empty bldg. w/ a few wooden crates stacked about. Nothing modern. That tells me, they're not doing too well against that OTHER W-mart place. Interesting.

IF there is blood in the citizens of Santa Royale, and I see no evidence to suggest that there is.

Ooh, isn't there a snazzy new diorama or something like that in the visitors' center. It was under construction last summer when our family went to Gettysburg.

I just can't bear to live through another round of heartbreak for Adrian, I really cannot...

Where's one's Hewlett again? And which one's Miller? I don't know why I even bother trying to follow these stories.

Tony said...

Looking ahead a bit, I'm guessing Scott (on the gurney) will survive, thanks to the heroic efforts of Adrian and her colleagues at Mountview. But he will decide police officer-ing is not for him after all, so he and Adrian will marry and fly off to somewhere safe, like Vietnam.

@ Vicki - the guy is waving his fist of doom as he's wearing a "What Would Margo Do" bracelet. If one of Margo's disciples is about to operate, Officer Nondescript is doomed.

Oh sorry, wrong cartoon strip! :)

duckduckgoose said...

@ Lindsey - Scott Hewlett is the blonde cop who won't die because he's the son of Jeff Corey's high school friend: hero, mentor, philanthropist, and all-around great guy. He doesn't know it yet, but he's engaged to Jeff's dark-haired daughter who was, before she met Scott, engaged to a bigamist, dead-beat dad with a bad mustache.

Miller's the blonde cop played by the bit player, so he's dead. But it's too bad he's dead because the hair tells us that he was one of the good ones.

Vicki said...

duckduckgoose--you are right, so far we haven't seen ANY evidence of blood yet. Everything seems clean & tidy!

Since the cops didn't call for back-up until AFTER the shakedown, I was thinking the hospital's equivalent would be to not have any blood ready, or maybe not have their instruments sterilized. They will probably get on the PA and announce..."um,...yeah,... we are having a blood drive out in the parking lot today. Any employees or visitors that have a free minute..."

Brick said...

Wednesday - something.... has..... happened...
Thursday - to....... Scott.....
Friday - he..... has.....
Saturday - been.... shot....
Sunday - and he's in surgery right now. Things look bad, but he'll pull through.

It's our readers that we're afraid might die.

Adrian's tiny "?" thought balloon is a perfect indicator of how dense she really is.

Vicki said...

Adrian must have skipped over the chapter in her Medical Doctor correspondence course where "stethoscopes" were discussed. Otherwise, she'd know that you have to put the earpieces IN your ears in order to listen to someone's heart sounds. Just trying to be helpful here, A.

Vicki (hungry at work) said...

"Something's happened... your lunch salad was delivered and they forgot to hold the onions. sorry."

Today's first panel is like one of those Highlight Magazine puzzles where your asked to circle 10 things wrong with the picture.

Vicki found the stethoscope. I'm circling the unlikely placement of the IV needle.

Wow! 24 comments and no one has mentioned the second sighting of an African-American in Santa Royale this month. And not just some extra guy standing around in the background, but someone who works in a hospital while wearing scrubs.

That's what I've been reduced to by this horrendous storyline--looking for minorities. Put me out of my Moysery, please!

Oh, and just a little tip--an even better Gettysburg visit can be had by pretending you work with a nondescript Department of Defense agency and are part of that class touring the battlefield in a nondescript bus. We've got two guys who teach a class on Gettysburg that includes a day of tromping around the different key sites in chronological order, ending with walking Pickett's Charge (or was it holding Chamberlain's left flank on Little Round Top?). These guys are incredibly knowledgeable. Anyway, if you can look nondescript enough and happen to be there on a day they are walking the field, you will be able to blend in and have a great tour. It does take about four hours, but it's well worth it.

"Adrian... can I talk to you?"...

"Okay, first, that thingie that you have in your hand... that's called a "steth-o-scope", it's NOT a necklace... put the earpieces in your ears, woman!"

"Oh, and when we run an "IV", we normally don't run the line down to the floor, then loop the bed and over the traction rack." "It just doesn't work as well that way... well, and we just don't have enough tubing to do that, dear".

"One more thing: Scott is down in the ER with deadly bullet wound.... that is all".

I don't think Adrian was interrupted trying to listen to the patient's heart. She's trying to make up for losing that $50,000 on Ted's "sister" and is supplementing her income by sneaking into patients's rooms and stealing organs for sale on the black market. She was just swabbing the patient's chest with an alcohol wipe (even organ thieves want to promote cleanliness) when that nosy nurse interrupted her.

Applying duckduck's Sept. 30th comment to Anon/Wheelhead's Sept. 30th observation: Perhaps we should circle that, too?

Anonymous said...

I think her stethoscope earpieces might actually be in her ears; they are just clamped so close to her head by her hair helmet that we can't see them.

Not sure what's up with the IV line, though, or that monitor in the background. It looks like a graph of the stock market in better days. Call me crazy, but I think EKG patterns are supposed to be somewhat regular...
