Mary Worth 690

"And after some more persuasion, he agreed to let me keep his heart in this old juice jar full of formaldehyde."

This plot development makes a lot of sense. We are all so familiar with Wilbur's methods of persuasion (nagging, whining and odd body odors), that Kurt's complete reversal of opinion is perfectly logical without our having to sit through any tedious action.

Read Today's Full Strip.

Maybe the drunk old bat in Florida was wrong about Kurt's appearance at her door. Maybe it was another one of her late brother's children from the other side of the blanket. He probably had quite a few, being a rich college student and Boston having a lot of "townies"...

Or maybe Kurt is attracted to Dawn and wants to establish that they are NOT related.

When I read today's strip, I was surprised. Although my facial expression indicated disinterest, lines shot out of it and I whispered a teeny tiny explanation point. Such a sudden turn! Who could have predicted that THIS was going to happen? I haven't been this excited about Mary Worth in a long time...

Just looking at this panel, I assumed Wilbur mistook a paternity test for a urin sample.

"Hey, watch this Dawn! Do you want to bet I can pour this into my hand and not spill any of it?"

Just when I thought Moy was going to repeat, repeat, repeat forever, she pulls THIS plot twist! Hoo boy, I never saw it coming! (I know what you mean, duckduckgoose-- surprise lines shot out of my face, too!)

We're off to Mountview! Maybe we'll run into Dr Cory!

I've finally realized who Dawn reminds me of- Betty Crocker, circa 1972! It's uncanny!

Dear Wendy,

Nevermind.

Why didn't we get a few strips of Mary interfering and guilting Kurt into the right thing and agree to the "newfangled and possibly unreliable" DNA test?

Well, Kurt agreeing to the paternity test is certainly a nice shortcut! I was afraid Wilbur's answer to Dawn was going to be, "Oh, I was out buying toothbrushes! Somehow Kurt's and mine disappeared!"

I guess Kurt is going to come clean, and the easiest way to do so is volunteer for DNA testing -- anyway, it takes weeks to get the results back so he has a lot of time to continue to worm his way into Wilbur's and Dawn's hearts. What I don't get is how did Kurt ever decide to tell the truth without having been given Mary's sage advice? Maybe we'll be treated to flashbacks of conversations he's been having with Mary all this time.

Moy must have dropped her storyline index cards on the floor, and put them back in the wrong order.

Oh, they tease me so! What WILL happen!

And I hadn't realize that Wilbur had massive puffy hair under his splendid shirt, while the stuff up top is morphing into an evil parody of Zero Mostel.

There's something deep in this. Something vile and repressed, deeply.

I see a Broadway musical in this. Wilbur & Kurt as the producers, Dawn as the secretary, the "Charterstone, in Springtime" number, complete with flaming salmon squares. And Mary, descending from above, just to bask in the bizarro-ness of it all, before floating off to the Bum Boat, smugly deconstructing all the tales of .... woe? .. while Jeff Cory drinks himself s.s..s...something. (stupid? silly? sorry? take your pick!)
And it all ends with a big platitude. Something to take home, you know?
