Mary Worth 743

Well, gee, Mary... Thanks. Now that you put it that way, I've completely lost my compulsive desires. If only other addicts would stop and consider what they might lose if they continue to act out, the world would be free of problems forever.

Today's Full Strip

Well, our Mary hit the nail on the head, didn't she? Eureka! The burning question that will resolve every global issue!

Quiet, Mary! She's praying!

What I am most amazed at in this plotline is...the boxes! I haven't been able to pry a box out a cashier since 1993.

Is Bonnie's? compulsion to shop all that different than Mary's compulsion to meddle? They both need professional help.

In my opinion, she should go with the boxes.
Like the boxes, Ernie was trim and tailored... but stiff. He was present... but reticent. I only once saw any sign of real passion out of the guy and that turned out to be a static window display.

But the boxes? Why, they are bright, bold, snazzy! They evoke for me the golden age of shopping and they give Bonnie such a high! More importantly, the boxes will never say hurtful things.

Seems to me the choice is clear. Days and weeks without so much as a phone call from her husband and what does she cry about?
Letting go of the boxes.

Mary's so brilliant and intuitive that she may figure out a way to keep Bonnie shopping AND reunite with Ernie...

@Barbara Hanson: Likewise! I totally wish I could reach into that comic and grab a couple of those sturdy looking boxes for some stuff I need to store.

My, that was some serious DEATH GRIP Mary had on "don't judge me" Bonnie's? throat! I think B?BJ? must have told her to back off.

Those boxes really should have their own comic strip. Sturdy, colorful, wise. Eventually the strip would be made into a motion picture. I smell another Oscar(tm) nod for Meryl Street as the Maisies box!

Much better that the shoddy ones that Macy's(tm) gives away.

It really is frightening how Mary could be Angela Lansbury's twin from her Manchurian Candidate days.

However does she achieve that smooth pompadour?

Wow! Mr. Rogers Swings sounds awesome, like otherworldly awesome! I'm going to have to get a copy of that.

Maybe Mary should lay some Mr. Rogers on Bonnie?:

'I can stop when I want to. Can stop when I wish. Can stop, stop, stop anytime....And what a good feeling to feel like this! And know that the feeling is really mine. Know that there's something deep inside that helps us become what we can. For a girl can be someday a lady, and a boy can be someday a man.'

I love Mr. Rogers. My mother loved him. Now I love him. He got it.

Anyway, I was listening to NPR today and caught an author interview that might interest followers of Mary Worth. It was called "Hoarding: When Too Much 'Stuff' Causes Grief" and I found it enlightening. You can listen to it online at:

I like the idea of a strip about boxes. Odds are good that it would be more entertaining than Mary Worth.

Are the Maisie's, Marcy's, and Filena's Boxes becoming bigger stars than Dinner Napkin? say it isn't so!

4/6 - Mary's grown a prosthetic limb out of the middle of her chest and Bonnie's off Jenny Craig for the day. She'll be back on track on Sunday when her thin self is once again revealed.

Look at Mary in panel 1 - so loving, so caring, so totally plotting the nice juicy conversation she'll have with Toby over some warm salmon squares.

I know that I could NEVER live with the man I love...
whereas BOXES can be VERY easy to live with...
I have my own stack of small boxes...
and keep them...
near my bed...

trixietrudy said...

@Robert: No, nothing could ever be better than the Dinner Napkin!

I am quite certain that now that Mary has put B?BJ?'s compulsion in the proper perspective, all we will need is for Uncle Joe to put a light bulb thought bubble over B?'s head. The illumination from Mary's wisdom will be all that it takes for B?BJ? to amend her ways and win back the love of her man. Mary will then go on a speaking tour to share her recovery techniques with OCD support groups across the country.

Vicki said...

@Anon: good idea! Mary could do podcasts like Lawrence Jonis!

Is Mary counseling B?BJ? to... think outside the box?

Sorry, never mind.

Friday 5/7. Will you look at those lats on Mary!!! She must be hitting the gym pretty hard!

Chester the Dog said...

B?B?J? is a real mess.

Vicki said...

@tuffenuff--Mary's anatomy is certainly curious today! Her back looks like her chestal area, and vice versa. Hard to tell if she's coming or going!

One of those boxes must contain Ernies's sombrero. B?BJ? could start her rehab by returning one thing each day. She could start with that one. Just trying to be helpful here.

Robert said...

heydave, if Mary actually says that ... Actually, there's a good chance she will say it, with a sly smirk at Bonnie's expense.

I see today a box from J.B. Penney! I wish Giella would start putting labels on boxes from mall stores that wouldn't use boxes, like Cinnadun, Orange Lulius, and Starducks.
