Remember, Mikey, alcohol is the devil. RIP Lonnie, we hardly knew ye (and your shaking). Hey, did you notice there was a pill bottle by the bed a few days ago, and then the next day it disappeared? Wonder if Mikey did his dear old Dad in.
This just keeps getting more and more bunged up. Are Karen's mad writing skillz so thin that she couldn't conceive of a universe with Mike, Lonnie and whatever the woman's name was...the wino who wanted a second date with him? Is there just not enough room in the Worthiverse for another character? Is our girl a neo-Prohibitionist at heart and wants us all to believe as she does? ARGH
Can you begin to imagine the neuroses that finding your father dead in bed a day after taking him in is going to cause Mikey/Dr Mike?
Who is Dr. Mike's therapist? Oh, right, it's Mary.
Gee whiz, Mary Worth, you are giving me a lot to deal with. Will Mikey pick up a hatchet, Carrie Nation style, and begin a campaign of slaughtering anyone with a beer bottle or wine glass in hand?Man, I hope so.
This will sure put a cramp in Dr. Mikes dating life. I hope they have the after funeral reception at the Bum Boat!Moy used the oldest trick in the book, if you can;t figure out how to end a story, kill the character!
Awesome! Is Mary Worth prescient or what? Way to reunite Dr. Mike and his bum of a daddy only moments before death, you go girl!
OK let's keep it moving here Moye...Poor Lonnie's dead. Stretched out on Mikey's bedHe drank a little liquor in his lifeHe's stiff and grey todayhope he hasn't started to decay...It's Summer and we're running out of ice!apologies to Rodgers and Hammerstein
A split-level ranch with acoustic ceiling tiles?
Phoebes- If you REALLY want to imagine neurosis, picture the first time Mike brings Jenna home for an ''intimate moment''- then informs her that his decrepit, drunken father died in that VERY bed! If THAT doesn't kill the mood, NOTHING will.
@Jared. Awesome Carrie Nation reference. @maconmemad. Rogers & Hammerstein are so "other-worldly." Delilah would lover your song.
As a master of Ye Darkest Arts, Mary must be salivating at the prospect of devouring Mike's tasty, plentiful sorrow......patience, crone! It is what has kept you unnaturally alive lo these many centuries!
Who paid for the funeral? Were there guests?
Would it be in bad taste to have a pool party as the wake? I *always* look forward to a good Charterstone pool party -- no bathing costumes, and BYO salmon squares!
*sigh* I'm feeling sad today. Am taking Lonnie's death really hard. I had grown so fond of him in such a short time. What a great guy he was-- always hunting for Richie's killer and all...
@ Vickie: Perhaps it would help if you were to write a brief eulogy for him.... or WAS that a brief eulogy for him?!!
Was Lonnie's roommate Fred at the funeral? I'm still wondering why Moy bothered to introduce his character. It couldn't have been just to answer the phone at Lonnie's hovel. There must be some compelling reason ... Moy? Moy Genius? Are you there? Will we ever find out, or are you hiding in shame over this ridiculous storyline?
Okay, I'ma say this because it's been on my mind. This is the "comic" strip that takes 47 days to depict one scene from one pool party. The panels will be identical except for maybe an eye twitch, a head nod and some dialogue...this goes on for WEEKS. Then Lonnie comes along and we go from reconciliation-->moving in with estranged son-->death-->funeral in like a minute and a half. Christ, Moy! If you moved at this speed the rest of the year, we might actually have four or five or twelve pool parties.
I wonder if there will be a reading of Lonnie's will- and it turns out he was sitting on a fortune, which he leaves to Mike? There have been cases of people that live like paupers, but actually have millions tucked away.
Is Jenna still sitting by the phone?
Now that his mom, Lonnie, and Richie are all gone, Fred's the closest thing to family that Mike has. Maybe we'll see him again at the wedding.Maude, I'd love to read that will: "Don't ever let the bottle get to you son. It's the devil. But gambling, gambling's not half bad!"
Patti, Maybe we'll see him again at the wedding... tomorrow.
When I procrastinate with hated chores (say, cleaning the house, for example) for too long and things get really bad, I eventually reach "critical mass." Meaning, the mess is finally bothering me so much, that I try to fix everything in one gargantuan effort. I think Moy has reached critical mass and is bound and determined to finish off this story. After sitting on park benches for some weeks, Lonnie and Mikey reconcile, Lonnie moves in the day before yesterday, dies yesterday, is buried today, and tomorrow - tomorrow there could be wedding bells. And we may never find out who killed Richie or whatever happened to Dr. Mikey's mom. I was so hoping for yet another story withing this story (or "story").
I think Dr. Mike's mom killed Richie. She was jealous of Lonnie spending so much time with him, instead of coming home to their hovel to admire her bathrobe.
OMG - I think Maude@5.43p has the right answer! Thanks, Maude. But I also wonder if the police will investigate Lonnie's death? I mean, it is suspicious - Lonnie dying mysteriously one day after moving in with Mikey/Dr Mike... Maybe that police-guy that dimwitted lady doctor is dating - or is she married to him by now? - will investigate Lonnie's death and we'll have full circle...
No, no, you're all missing the point. You seem to be forgetting that this is the MARY WORTH comic strip, so all story lines have to do with validating Mary's meddling. The big story is what matters; all the rest is detail. In this story, which began with Bonnie$Bonnie Johnson, Dr. Mike followed Mary's advice to once more seek out his father, who fortunately was about to die. Mike thereby resolved the major conflict in his life (and possibly inherited a fortune!). This will lead to a close relationship with Jenna, and the two of them, having learned (from Mary) that love IS for everybody and (from Lonnie) that alcohol is the devil, will both be able to counsel B?BJ more effectively. She, in turn, will straighten out her finances and get rid of her junk. This was all accomplished under Mary's lovingly careful meddling. See now how it all fits together?
Poor Fred- I just realized, today is the first of the month, and he doesn't have Lonnie's half of the rent.
LOL. I didn't even realize Lonnie was dead until the next strip showing his funeral.
