I think Jeff is having trouble dealing with the fact that a young, attractive woman has thrown herself at him. It must have been all of her imbibing. Because otherwise it doesn't happen.
I love that in panel 2, Adrien appears to be encouraging Jill to drink another glass of what appears to be vodka. Way to go, Adrien; just get her a little drunker, why don't ya?
What a complex story and fascinating dialogue! I want to comment in more detail and come up with a real zinger, but last night I imbibed too much, so I can't. Well, as Jeff says, it happens.
Goodness sakes, have we learned NOTHING from Aldo Kelrast, Rita Beglar, or Lonnie "alcohol is the DEVIL" Roberts!!? What about Helen *hic* Clark of Miami, sitting by her phone!!?
Yet, there Jill BLACK sits, continuing to imbibe until dinner is served. As if baked chicken and green beans can solve everything!
Too much enabling going on around Ms. Black! There certainly WILL be another um..."incident". Mary's silently thinking, "Must.Terminate.Jill".
Emmy, I noticed too that it appears Adrian is counteracting the effects of alcohol with a vodka tonic, white wine, or gasoline. Her credentials as a doctor continue shining!
''Imbibed'' is such a quaint word. You hardly ever hear it in everyday conversation, anymore. Kids today NEED Mary Worth! How else would they learn these expressions?
I just cannot get over the thin grasp of reality this strip hangs on to. This scene takes the cake. What could Adrian possibly be telling Jill to make her feel better? Is Jill sober now, when just ten minutes ago, she was a slobbering mess?
Adrian to waiter McSnooty : "Sir, will our dinners be served shortly?"
McSnooty : "What's the name of your party, miss?"
Adrian: "We're the Corey-Hewlett wedding rehearsal party."
Mcsnooty : (looking down his nose at her all snooty-like) "I'm sorry, miss. Our records show ONLY a Corey - Hewlett "Drink and Dance" package was purchased. You did NOT purchase a "banquet dinner" package.
Adrian : "Oh, dear! A terrible mistake has been made!"
McSnooty: (totally unconcerned) "Have a nice day, miss"
OH, please, please... we DO want another incident! ANY incident! Or at least, something to happen in this glacially paced strip... and can we have an Aldo Kelrast style intervention at the end, with Jill careening off a cliff after too much imbibing? Please? Pretty please? That would be SUCH a Christmas present for me! :-D
@Robert: I think Adrian is plying Jill with some harmless Long Island Iced Teas, convinced of their therapeutic benefits. Or Doctor Pepper, who she met in the staff cafeteria.

Mary's not going to let it happen again. She is standing so impossibly close to Jeff that they seem to be wearing the same tie.
Yes, Mary likes the way things are between her and Jeff. She doesn't want him, but she doesn't want anyone else to be interested in him either.

Maybe the next story is about how Mary helps Jill cope with her alcohol problem?
Jill and Adrian have matching dresses! How sweet.....
Ha ha ha BLEAAHHHH.
It's also interesting that they decided to have the dancing BEFORE dinner instead of afterwards. Guess they're trying to mix it up a little.

Who is saying "we don't want another incident"? Is it the DJ at the rehearsal dinner? Is it Jill's conscience? God?
She Is feeding Jill more vodka!
With any luck she'll pass out so they can slide her under the buffet table and continue their lovely evening in peace.
It's Adrian's fault. This is what happens when you make your guests wait too long for their dinner. Everybody gets drunk and surly.
At least that has been my experience.
