Mary Worth 939

YES! Another "Perils of Technology" story! Electronic reading device? Mary does NOT approve. But soon Joe Giella will never have to draw another bookshelf loaded with cement gray volumes.

Oh Adrian, what were you thinking? Trying to drive a wedge between your father and Mary??

And what is that 'hmmm' all about? Is Mary going to sabotage the 'reading device', or will she steal it and make it her own???

I don't care what this new story line's about - I am just so relieved we didn't continue with Scott and Dr Adrian's honeymoon. That was headed into rooms and action-in-rooms that I just didn't want to see..or even think about, actually.

Now let's see what this Fanny Hill character is all about.

Interesting dance Mary is doing with the two cups of coffee. Yet she got across the room just in time--before the wall dropped down behind Jeff, the chair grew into a loveseat, and an extra end table and lamp appeared out of nowhere.

In that first panel, Mary sure looks like a waitress serving up two cups 'a joe. "Can I get ya a slice of pie with that, hon?"

And as far as the sudden switch in plotlines, as relieved as I am, too, to duck away from the honeymoon scene, I'd much rather watch Jill drunk-dial her ex-fiancé or at least cyber-stalk him. It's going to take a week just for Jeff to show Mary how this newfangled gadget works, while we claw our eyes out. More Jill! More Jill!

Meanwhile, back in Vietnam: Làm thế nào là chuyến thăm của bạn với gia đình, Drew?
(So how was your visit with the family, Drew?)

I just hate the lame way Moy drops a story line!

Well, maybe the new one has promise. Doesn't today's Panel 2 look like a Bride of Chucky remake?

So today we learn that at least the COREYS celebrated Christmas! (I'm so pleased, as Mary had not even a speck of glitter nor strand of tinsel anywhere in her condo!)
This is head-spinning technology going on in Santa Royale these days!
I'm pretty sure that was an i-pack in the back of Scott's batmobile, Wilbur is meeting new friends on Faceplace every day and now Jeff has an instant Krenndoll reading device!
(Does Professor Ian Cameron know about this modern marvel, I wonder?)

Meanwhile, Jill remains a lonely, raging alcoholic...

"Reading device"? Moy couldn't have called it "The Rook" or "The Spindle"? How more awkward a phrase could Mary be forced to say. Even she isn't feeling it in panel 2.

In yesterday's strip, was Jill about to burn the photo of her and her ex fiance? I wonder if she'll go up in flames, along with the past? Scott & Adrian can scatter her ashes on the beach in Bora Bora.

I knew the economy was bad, but who'd have guessed that commercialism would rear its ugly head in a comic strip via a thinly-veiled ad for Kindle. Is nothing sacred?

What's next...a discussion of Mary's favorite "medicated, anti-itch lotion."

Okay, now that the ugly head of product placement has raised its head in the Worthiverse, I think we should keep a count of other product placement - either "actual" like the Bora Bora Four Seasons" or "disguised" like "Marcy's".

I believe that today we witness the birth of a new story line: the perils of electronic devices and how they may isolate us socially! We already know how dangerous the Interwebs are, so this was the next logical step in this cutting edge strip. We can already see how Dr. Jeff is ignoring Mary (which is unpardonable in itself), and he's had his reading device for barely a month. Soon he will forget to eat and shower and take Citizen Kane for a walk and go to the Bum Boat and ask his lady to marry him. How will Mary handle this dilemma? Let's stay tuned!

WOW!!! A reading device!!! What will they think of next?

Dangerous indead! Dr Jeff is already transforming into Charlie Smyth. A snear and shirt buttons popping off. Next he's going to want to redecorate.
