Mary Worth 940

Wow. Jeff's new Kindle Wireless Reading Device, Wi-Fi, Graphite, 6" Display with New E Ink Pearl Technologyis amazing! It even adds bookmarks without having to embroider a real one yourself. Still, Mary is skeptical. Come on, Mary. Get with the times. Buy a sleek new Kindle Wireless Reading Device, Wi-Fi, Graphite, 6" Display with New E Ink Pearl Technology!

And I agree with an Anonymous commenter yesterday that Jeff has been looking more and more like Charley Smith ever since he got his new Kindle Wireless Reading Device, Wi-Fi, Graphite, 6" Display with New E Ink Pearl Technology.

Jeff's face today (2nd frame) is obviously Charley Smith's, probably inserted when Giella's apprentice called up the wrong entry from the "Faces" database.

Will Mary make some pithy comment now which will devastate the entire e-reader industry?

Is it just me? I don't see a secret message today. And lately I've been unable to read the day's strip by clicking the Washington Post link - it tells me "content currently unavailable." And for content this rich, I don't want to miss a moment of it...

And guess what Mary, you won't even have to pay for Wi-Fi! I've already figured out Wilbur's password and I'm "squatting" on his wireless right now. (The password is sandwich).

That is one massive chin implant Jeff/Charlie is sporting!

Love it! "Hi, I'm Jeff, and this is my chin!" Look how forlorn Mary looks, holding that e-reader: "If they can teach this thing how to meddle and give advice, I'll be out of business by May."

"no heavy books to lug around". But Jeff, Mary's romance paperback novels really aren't all that heavy.

Okay, I'm going to be serious here.

A couple of months ago I bought a Kindle for use when I travel. I also bought the NON-LIGHTED Kindle cover for it.

It was working fine until a couple of weeks ago when it would just freeze and not work at all. I called Amazon - they're actually pretty good with customer service - described my "problems" and the service guy asked if I had the non-lighted cover. (I would think he could see that I did, but he asked anyway".

"Yes", I said. He told me to take the Kindle out of the cover and try charging it. It worked just fine - took a charge, etc. He then told me that Amazon had been having trouble with that cover (the metal clips attaching the Kindle to the cover) and was causing power shortages. Which seems to be the problem with MY Kindle.

Anyway, they told me to toss away that cover and they gave me a $25.00 credit towards a LIGHTED cover. I attached my Kindle to the new cover - I can't figure out how the light works - and it seems to be working fine.

SO, if you have the new Kindle and cover and you're having trouble with it, it might be the cover.

Once I got past the awesomeness of this latest round of face/shape shifting, I look at these two clucks and take solace in realizing that they are simply too dumb to eat, and likely won't be bothering me anymore.

Mary is as likely to get a reading device as she is to change her hairstyle.

So, is Moy's goal to be reading Harlequin Romances on her free Kindle while lolling on the veranda of her free Bora Bora Bungalow?

Come to think of it, that's a pretty darn good goal!

Moy has heard that these devices can have "viruses" and Mary's sensible caution will counterpoint Jeff's foolhardy rush to technology, and poor Jeff will catch a "virus" from the "reading device." Luckily, Mary will recommend a stronger course of antibiotics, and everything will return to normal, just in time for the seasonal Charterstone pool party.

@ phoebes,

If you still can't figure out the lighted cover, let me know. I have one and it works great. Basically, you just pull out the tab on the top right-hand corner, and the light comes on.

Syndi, thanks for the tip about the light. I was just so excited to get a case that didn't sabotage my Kindle that I didn't try very hard about the light, figuring in the scheme of things it wasn't very important.
