Mary Worth 1,055

For those of you considering a career change, I'd like to recommend this wonderful book by Nicholas Lore:

Or you could just have coffee with Mary, get over your crush, throw away your college degree and years in your chosen field, and begin standing in line with thousands of other applicants. Enjoy that plan. Or, rather, not-plan.

It's OK that Liza is changing to a new and exciting career. I don't believe for a second she actually studied to be a nurse. It is more likely that, like so many other "medical professionals" in Santa Royale, she just bought scrubs one day (because they matched her eyes), walked through the front door of that hospital and played nurse....until she laid eyes on that dishy doctor. But now that she'll be in sales, she asks herself, "What did I ever see in Drew?"
Yea, that makes a lot of sense!

PS: Mary's upper dentures seem to be sliding out of her mouth. Maybe we haven't seen much of her lately because she spent a lot of time at the dentist, and her expert advice is really the powerful painkillers talking.

I'm no fan of Liza's, but I've noticed Mary sticking her finger in that girl's face more than once. If I were LiZa I'd be telling her just once nicely to put it elsewhere!

LiZa hasn't even quit/been fired yet, and Mary is already removing the NASA/LISA name badge from her shirt. Mary sure can't wait to jump into this exciting new chapter in LiZa's life!

I agree with Shmoopie about the drop-in nursing gig at Mountview. LiZa must not have known she'd have to at least know how to read a thermometer in order to pass.

"At this point it's worth making that leap, isn't it?"

Not if you haven't paid off your student loans.

Do you just "become a salesperson"? Like do you just show up somewhere and start selling? This sounds kind of demeaning to salespeople. I mean, if Mary was all, "Be a teacher!! Go on now and do it!" I'd be all, "Um, you have to go through school, get certified, take a bunch of tests, student teach (twice if you are in special ed like me) and then try to get a job along with thousands of other applicants"...you don't just show up and boom, you're a teacher or salesperson. Come on, Mare!

Fire me?! I don't even work here!

I guess Mountview films their scenes on the set of Star Trek Voyager. Mary could be Janeway and LiZa could don a red shirt and be blown to bits.

My word verfication? SHAFT! As in "...just talkin'about Mary..."

Great, Now LiZa will be out on the streets of SR, hawking the benefits of a "cordless phone"

(now, I don't know much about Harry Potter, never read the books and whatnot....but isn't Mary starting to look like "you know who" in panel 1?)
