The sales degree at Local University is actually quite rigorous.

I feel cheated out of a final confrontation. The only thing lamer than a really lame storyline is... a really lame ending.

birdie said...

We just have to get used to it, Punky. One Aldo story every decade or so will keep us hoping against hope, non-plot after non-plot, that the next storyline will be...a story. Any kind of a story. I can almost hear Moy cackling as she carefully deflates every balloon.

Gee Drew, maybe you shouldn't have given up on your stalker so quickly now, huh?

Was it quickly? Felt like it took months...

No need to fret, folks. See that "Emergency" sign right next to Mary?

Will be jumping from tepid to mundane right around the corner.

I guess Drew was beginning to enjoy the tension of having a stalker girlfriend. The disappointment is scrawled across his face. Where will he find another LiZa?

TeacherPatti said...

The way our man Drew says, "SALES training?!?!?!" + the look on his face makes me wonder if this is just foreshadowing and Liza is going to show up as a medical supplies rep/saleswoman. But then that would be using actual story telling devices and that does not happen in Mary's world.

I agree with Punky@7.31a about feeling cheated. But that's pretty pathetic in itself - feeling cheated by Mary Worth...

Any guesses on the next turgid storyline?

James in North Dakota said...

It is pretty disappointing...and the worst thing is that we never got to see a big confrontation at Dr. Bailey's party!!!!

Phoebes is right....it's pretty pathetic when even Mary Worth lets you down. But at least we have our health (unless LiZa is our nurse).

Let's just hope that this won't be the last time we see Nurse LiZa Colby!

Mary said...

"But I wonder how she's doing," says Drew. Is he about to ask her out? Maybe he'll just send her a text inviting her to the next Charterstone pool party.

James@10.26a - did you and your family escape the flooding?

Gee Golly, hasn't Dr. Drew Cory matured into one heck of a swell guy!?! From Goofus to Gallant.

I guess this story about nothing wasn't dead enough yet. Are we going to talk about Liza's departure from nursing into the wonderful world of sales for a week or a few month now? Or could this actually be the beginning of a new story? One about stethoscopes and clipboards - AND THE PEOPLE WHO SELL THEM TO HOSPITALS!!!

Dave in Parma said...

Dr. Drew looks concerned (that he no longer has the attention of a stalker). Maybe he should get Liza flowers and take her to dinner to make sure she's ok. You know those college students eat eat ramen ever day.

Well, the Liza Colby on "All My Children" went from careers as TV station manager to corporate CEO to district attorney with remarkable speed. I expect our LiZa to go from nurse to Local University student to top salesperson at Santa Royale Pharmaceuticals Inc. in a matter of days.

So, I guess the first panel in tomorrow's strip will say ''Meanwhile...''? Or maybe there will be a Charterstone pool party?

Phoebes -- Yes we did. It was just my partner and I and we got everything moved out. As far as I know, I think our apartment (a basement apartment, of all things) is high and dry. A secondary dike was built right along our road, so I think we're safe.

My partner's sister, however, has a wet house. Not sure how damaged though. Parts of the city were more affected than others. The water is going down (I was able to see the actual river today) and I think we'll be able to return to our homes sometime this week or early next week.

Thanks for asking :-)

I feel cheated because I wanted to see Liza get fired when she came back late from her break with Mary....

and I think Liza will be back but not selling Pharmaceuticals. I think she will be selling Arrow signage.

Imogene said...

djangosmom, I was thinking more along the lines of glass IV bottles, or maybe cast iron hospital bed headboards. Also, if anyone can sell a starched white nurse's cap in THIS market, it's our gal LiZa!

Vicki said...

This reminds me of a lying, thieving neighbor we once had who told me with a straight face she had a university degree in "antiques".
And I simply don't believe the esteemed Santa Royale University would offer a "sales training" program either. (A quick call to Dr. Ian "chinbeard" Cameron could quickly verify this).

Instead, I'd like to think Mary lured LiZa into her car and then shoved her off Aldo's cliff! Afterall, she did tell Drew she would "take care of this", or some such thing. You don't mess with Mary.

@ James in ND, glad to hear you fared ok with the flooding!

This story line makes me want to bang my head on the wall. LiZa's vocation isn't the problem, it's her obsessive personality. Now she's going to be calling people in the middle of the night to tell them the magazine subscription they declined is going to be sent on Friday.
MARY WHAT HAVE YOU RELEASED UPON THE WORLD? Actually, I think this is Mary Worth's plan for world domination. THE LIZABOT 3000! Mwah hahahaha!
At least that version will have explosions.

I think she should go into selling party supplies, especially those cute toy stethoscope party favors.

Surly Captain said...

So, the lesson is "if you're a stalker go into sales"?

Sound good to me. Let's hope the next lesson is "if your a serial killer go into marketing".

phoebes in santa fe said...

Hold it, is that an African-American woman in today's strip? OMG, Moy's getting away from her generic white people! Good for her.

James in North Dakota said...

Also, doesn't anyone else find it odd that it took our Dr. Drew a few weeks to find out what happened to LiZa?

I mean, not even one panel can go by where he isn't obsessing about our favorite nurse, yet he can get "a few weeks later" go by and not find out what happened to her? And does this mean that he hasn't seen Mary in that time? I guess Mary Worth has been leaving him in suspense. I always knew she was a little bit of a devil.

(My word was "ketrig," which is, I believe, the measurement system that Santa Royale subscribes to.)

I don't know why Mary isn't the head of the "sales training" department at SRU. In a single meeting over a cup of coffee, she convinced a nurse to give up a lucrative, secure profession to enter the highly competitive and mercurical market for sales people.

Mary is the QUEEN of selling the sizzle. All bow before her.

Dave in Parma said...

I wonder if Liza enrolled in Santa Royale U.'s innovative on-line sales degree program, you know, the one where you take classes on your cell phone. This story could just be beginning.

James--hope you're able to get back to your dry pad quicker than this storyline is wrapping up.

Nasa will show up selling Hospital Hi-Fi's.

Drew will be captivated by her new confidence and lack of stalker-hood, as well as the way she fills out her 80s-style business suit complete with a white blouse with a big floppy bow, and fall madly in love with her.

But Nasa will reject him, because now that she has a job she likes and a healthier focus for her persistence, she will see him for the twit that he is.

Drew will slink back to VietNam.

This storyline will take three years.
