Hopefully they'll be generous with donations in the present, too.
I have to ask myself what is motivating these influential Santa Royale Benefactors to come to this nondescript event. Concern over the sudden closure of a clinic in Vietnam? More likely, they all owe Mary Worth a favor since her meddling in their lives resulted in their acquiring HUGE sums of money.
By the way, I think Karen Moy is a wonderful writer. Not many could turn a phrase like she.

I am confused. I thought Jeff was looking at the results of donations that came in from the benefit dinner idea that Mary gave him, but they are just now going to the dinner?
and it looks like Drew has lent his father the Batmobile for their special evening.
Characters in Mary Worth transcend those worn-out conventions of time and space ... and logic.
Why is Jeff in the back seat?
Good question, Wanders. I'd also like to know why the Batmobile is running over a large, two-headed snake.
Note the rakish angle to the perspective, the roguish tilt of the vehicle. It screams "We're important! And moving!"
Maybe the worthy people of Santa Royale are generous because they are paying Mary off NOT to meddle in their affairs. After all, we really don't know the wording of her request to them... Did it involve an offer to avoid meddling in their marriage? Or perhaps a veiled threat involving injury and kneecaps?
The headlights on the Jeff-mobile look like they are ready to close...so sleepy...these boring passengers.
Question, what type of radio station to Jeff and Mary tune into when they are in their car? I think some lite lite lite FM station, non descript muzak. WSRL-FM, all dull all the time!
How embarrassing to show up at the gala event with TP stuck to the bottom of your wheel.
Jeff goes straight from talking about Mary's beauty to talking about wealthy donors. That's some non sequitur. Unless he's suggesting . . . wait, he's not . . . could he be asking her to . . . ARGH! I have to go wash my brain out now!!
I think the smoke coming from the Batmobile is a nice Giella touch. You know Joe is just *itching* for a bit of Batman-type action, just a bit of a screech. It must be tempting to draw giving Mary a sharp left hook with a giant KAPOW! emblazoned across the panel.
Santa Royale must seem very tame after adventures in the Batcave...
I'm not sure I like the connotation with Mary looking beautiful, and ''all those influential benefactors'' being at the party. Are we going to see Mary's sultry rendition of ''Hey, Big Spender'', from Sweet Charity?
Maude, I'd rather see her sing something from Mame, don't you agree? :-)
@Chester: they only have AM in Santa Royale, none of that new fangled FM.
I like the sun-roof-esque sindshield in panel 1. Dr. jeff's oversized front tire in panel 2 seems to be rubbing on the fender and beginning to smoke. Hopefully Mary can change a flat in that dress.
Is Jeff wearing a headband?
That's his cumberbun, not a headband Jay. It's been slowly creeping up as Dr. Jeff tilts his seat back to do some pimpin' driving from the back seat.
The souped-up Nissan Altima/batmobile deserves its own spin-off strip (and exciting words like "VROOOM!").
"You look beautiful [in your 100% wool, Bea Arthur original gown] tonight, Mary."
Jeff's unseen thought bubble: "YUCK!!!"
That's one funky headlight assembly. Looks like it's winking at us.
@Dave: Please, PLEASE do not say "pimpin'" in regards to this scenario. I've been trying to get the idea out of my head all day. *shudder*
I just know he's going to "accidently" run out of gas just as they're driving home past the romantic "Paradise Ravine". Jeff knows that Mary doesn't believe in silly cell phones to call AAA so he'll have her all to himself to go on and on go about all the donations he got.
yes, that was probably a poor choice of words Gina--sorry. At least I didn't say Dr. Jeff was going to try to shop short (gratuitous Seinfeld reference).
Folks, you are not gonna like where this story's going...
