Mary Worth 1,077

Uh oh. It appears that Mary's remark yesterday about dodging a bullet, may have touched a nerve. Chester the Dog pointed out in yesterday's comments that in the Worthiverse, bullets move so slowly that they would be easy to dodge, so perhaps Gina's pet turtle was recently shot.

I thought this was Diner Across the Street, but I have not seen a truckers cap in two days, and now fancy palms have started to grow, so I'm not so sure.

Today's Full Strip

The waitress (Gina, Liza, what's with name similarity?) must be Ri(t)chie's girl friend!

Time for Mary to finally carry the mantle of vigilante and find his killer!

The lesson from panel 2 is that self face touching alleviates one's conscience.

Is Gina (thanks Joe, the nametags help a lot!) pregnant, perhaps? If so, I feel a meddle coming on!

Mary never knows when a new meddling opportunity will present itself. Perhaps Gina has NOT dodged a bullet.

Poor Gina is about to toss her cookies. If only others had this reaction to the thought of Mary's meddling, it would have spared them!

I think Topny's right. The bullet is still coming at Gina, and she only has weeks to dodge it.

I think we're about to be treated to a lecture on preventive health care.

Gina will be OK, after Mary meddles, though. She just has some symptoms she's worrying over, and she's putting off seeing her doctor.

Tony, not Topny.

I don't know why she's running away, but I believe running away from Mary Worth may be the best move this gal has ever made.

It appears that Gina has eaten at her place of employment very recently.

Mary eats out quite a bit. I wish she wasn't so careless with her money. Eating out is a treat and should be done only once or twice a year.

Maybe Gina has no health insurance, and has a bullet lodged in body somewhere, because she didn't dodge quickly enough? If this is the diner across from the Hospital, where is Flannel Shirt Guy?

Has MW ever dealt with (gasp!) unwed motherhood before?

We were treated today to face touching in both panels!!!!! I feel like it's my birthday.

Anyway, let's hope that Mary Worth does what she does best -- meddle!!! -- and we learn more about Gina.

Not only has the fancy palm grown almost 2 feet since Mary walked in the door, but the decor now includes pink drapes over the window blinds. Gina realizes that she has entered the Twilight Zone.

I react the same way when someone asks me about salad.

I think Moy deserves some credit here. We all like to point out her characters' stilted dialog and baffling behavior. For once someone in Mary Worth is doing exactly what someone *should* do in the presence of the title character -- running away and trying not to vomit on bystanders. Bravo, Karen!

birdie points out that Gina may need to see a doctor.

Doctor --> Drew --> fall in love ?

Which reminds me of that 70s sitcom where the rich, handsome doctor marries the waitress from the diner. I can't remember the name of the show, but I think it was the Liberty (or Liberty Bell) Diner, and the show was set in Philadelphia. Does anyone else remember this? The doctor was the pilot from Airplane!

I'm not sure if this comment shows my age, or how incredibly bored I am at my second-to-last-day-on-the-job-before-grad-school.

Mary eats out frequently because her freezer is full of bricks of salmon squares and seafood scampi, and she has no room for any other food. Plus I bet she gets a senior discount at all the restaurants in SR!

Mary, you're talking about "Angie"

Mary said...

Thanks, James! I think I really liked that show at the time.

"What an odd reaction?! I simply requested that she toss my salad right here at the banquette."

trixietrudy@11.01a - YES, Mary has dealt with unwedmotherhood before. Back in the late 1960's, Mary advised a young girl who drove a Beetle (so she as a hippie, although she wore her hair in a pixie style) who'd gotten knocked up somehow - remember, this IS the Worthiverse) to keep the baby. Does anyone else remember this plot-line?

Maybe "Gina" is the daughter of the hippie...

Regarding unwed motherhood, remember Wilbur's old hippy girlfriend begat Kurt Evans with that rich guy from the Clark Resorts empire? Somehow that story was completely off Mary's meddle radar, so she may be a little rusty on that topic. After all it's been DECADES since she...

I love how the guy at the other booth pays NO attention to the retching, gagging waitress running past him!

I think we're all salivating over the word "bullet" and are hoping for an exciting, danger-filled storyline reminiscent of "Shootout at Santa Royale Mart." More likely, the focus is going to be on "dodge," and Gina is remembering her horrifying experiences with dodgeball in elementary school P.E. class. Clearly this will be a story about the adult problems of Post Traumatic Bullying.

I think Gina's boyfriend died in the shootout at the SantaRoyMart because he didn't dodge the bullet. Mary's words reminded her and now she is upset all over again.

One final note of todays strip. Which I love by the way. Poor Gine is so nauseated her check pad flew into the air.

I just hope she remembers to wash her hands as instructed by the sign under the ladies room mirror.
