"Fate has dealt me a cruel blow! My ponytail is permanent." But don't worry Gina. Once Mary shows you all the gorgeous chicks in Santa Royale that rock the pony tail, you'll know that love IS meant for you.
Wow, coma inducing excitement! What could this cruel blow be and who is this Fate person that done did deal it?
Gina, hurry tell us...next week sometime maybe.
Meanwhile Mary continues to memorize the Genero-Diner menu and that plant continues to lurk.
Someone mentioned the Scooby-Doo Guest series yesterday and Maude mentioned the Harlem Globetrotters as potential guest stars....both comments made me laugh..Thanks!
Well, it being Friday and all, we'll get Gina's same strange statement tomorrow (only slightly rearranged, like, a cruel blow fate has dealt me), the usual recap on Sunday (mom died, crushing debts, behind in school, creepy men coming on to me, won't ever find love again, cruel fate handing out blows, etc, etc. Hey, I just realized how much is going on here!) and, if we're lucky, we'll hear on Monday what this story will really be about.
OK, I have a new story idea for team coma: The crushing medical debts stem from a gender reassignment procedure when Gino became Gina!
Shmoopie@9.19a - I think your timeline's a little off. I think we'll be buying Halloween candy by the time this puppy rolls out at the normal snail's pace.
I'm still hoping it's a scam and Mary gets taken - BIG TIME!
Shmoopie - The stilted English patrol strikes again. "Fate has dealt me a cruel blow" will, tomorrow, be "A cruel blow, fate has dealt me," etc. until every variation has been used.
Dave in Parma -- Where in PA will you be vacationing?
Did Moy used to write captions for silent movies? And if I were drawing this little melodrama, I'd have drawn Gina with the back of her hand to her forehead.
There, there, Gina... Meadowlark Lemon will spin the ball on his fingertip, and make it all better! I'm actually kind of intrigued, wondering what cruel twist of fate befell poor Gina. Is there a tiny, deformed conjoined twin named Nina, growing out of her back? Is Gina really ''Gino''? Is she allergic to dairy? I MUST know!
It will now take at least a week for Gina to explain the blows that fate has dealt her while people wait and wait for their orders to be taken. Maybe it's just that Gina doesn't like being a waitress and would much prefer working in the mental health field, perhaps as a therapist, given her ability to instantly relate to strangers.
Laugh-out-loud comments, as usual. BTW, stumbled across this interview with Moy from 2007. It seems when she took over the strip, new story lines were introduced once every 18 MONTHS. "That's glacial in today's modern world!" So she kicked it up to a break-neck three per year... http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07063/766684-109.stm
Oh Vicki! You made me almost shriek with laughter with your insightful observation! Mary Worth, keeper of Newtonian law. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. It all makes sense now!!!
"Fate has dealt me a cruel blow...I'm drawn by Joe Giella and my dialogue is written by Karen Moy!"
Everyone seems much more interested in Dave in Parma's vacation than in this story. Dave, are you taking 480 to the turnpike or the Jennings Freeway to 90?
Depending on Dave lives in Parma he may want to head out Sprague Rd. and pick up the turnpike from I-71. Drivinig down Ridge Rd. to 480 can be a royal pain.
Saturday's strip is cracking me up. The people at the next table are seriously annoyed having to listen to Mary's nosing into Gina's business, as well as Gina's eagerness to share her life's story, while they sit there without being given menus or asked for their drink orders.
haha, Mary is getting Gina in trouble with her manager! And that black-haired woman is getting so annoyed she is in no mood to leave a generous tip. Also complicating the matter--Mary apparently can't decide on an appetizer. My gosh, you'd think she'd have the menu memorized by now!
Hope you are coming to Pixberg, where very excitingly the next Batman flick is being filmed. Just a quick 2.5 hour drive on the pricey Ohio Turnpike. Otherwise, there are noises about HersheyPark being pretty muscle-T-licious.
Is that really a biracial couple in Diner this morning?
And, now I know that Mary is VERY well off. When she volunteers she eats her lunch at Diner. I work at a hospital and all of our volunteers do it for the free lunch they receive. They are always in the cafeteria at lunch time making sure they get their full allotment for the day. Wow, Mary!
@dgangosmom: I was thinking the same thing--interesting crowd at Diner for the dinner shift! And there is Toby Cameron, cheating on Ian. She's totally into that guy. Mary is sure to spot her--can she handle two meddles at once?
Word verif: "spherjam" - what happens when reality collides with the Worthiverse.
Missing...One Ken doll, circa 1963: Tall, fair-skin, yellow-blonde crewcut, last seen wearing a light-blue, striped t-shirt. Unable to flex arms and legs at the elbow or knee. May be in the company of an older woman.
Some restaurants close down at 2 p.m., then re-open for supper with their evening menu. Diner, however, apparently has a tip-out expansion unit they pull out for "a more upscale dining experience" at 6 p.m. I'm impressed!

Gina: "Fate has dealt me a cruel Blow"
Guest Star: "Is there a problem ladies?"
Gina & Mary: "Tim Conway!?!?!?!?!"

Am looking forward to vacationing in PA for the next week, leaving tomorrow.
Good thing I won't miss anything in the plot (just the comments!).
Maybe Fate's cruel blow is that Gina's top button is permanently fastened.
@Steven W., the Tim Conway reference made me laugh.
@Dave in Parma, have fun in PA. If you pass through Pittsburgh, you can watch the filming of The Dark Knight Rises. Holy meddling, Batman!

"you see, Mary, I am quite a ways into my sales course already at local U...but I've lately come to realize I really want to be...a NURSE!"

Ha! Gina doesn't know the extent of the cruel blow that fate has dealt her. Wait until Mary goes into full blown meddling phase.
@Dave in Parma: By any chance, are you going to Hershey Park in PA?

Frankly, I don't want to know my waitress' life story. Just get my order right and keep my water glass filled and it'll be all good.
Ahh, but you're not a compulsive meddler. Gina is mother's milk to Mary.
Mary, fate has dealt me a cruel blow...I used to be GINO, then I became GINA, but couldn't afford the ENTIRE procedure...
mary turnip pie will not be on the menu so i guess you hold the menu because wilber weston is staring at you.
@Pat P: Just hopin' he doesn't show up at Hershey Park in a muscle shirt.
Kathyo, they already had Muscle shirt day @ Hershey. I think Mompants day is the next special emphasis day.
Nice article, thanks for sharing.

Meanwhile, another "love-isn't for me" storyline?
Good grief! Can I have this writing gig?
WorVer is ophobu!
I can't wait for the crowd to get surly and put the beat down on meddlin' Mary and her disruptive ways.
