The thinness of this closure, after the drawn out, exhausting, plodding buildup, brings to mind a saying. It has something to do with X+1 pounds of something going into a bag that holds X pounds.
I forget what the something was...
But, after seeing the waves of discontent voiced here, is it REALLY the end?
Like everyone else who's posted, I'm disappointed with the "ending". I was hoping - though not willing to place money on - that the latest issue of "Men's Fitness" would fall out of case. By the way, I am sitting in the Admirals Club at American Airlines at Washington National Airport, watching the planes come in from the South up the Potomic, always at an angle almost up to the minute they touch down on the run-way. It's a spectacularly beautiful sight which I'm sure Giella would botch if he was drawing it!
They're both landing and taking off to the north. When I came in on Friday, they were doing both to the south.
I think I finally get it. Moy and Giella want desperately to retire but they realize the huge following this strip has and they just can't bear to disappoint us. They've devised a scheme where they think if they produce the lamest, most annoying story lines in the history of comic strips, poorly drawn with ridiculous coloring, we'll all eventually wander off and find other strips to torment ourselves with. Boy, were they wrong!
Sadly, it's like opening a nicely wrapped package and finding an empty box. Please, please, let there be some drama here! Bobby works for the mob now, yes? Don't all of those soccer players? In that case, his hug is like a Judas kiss...
While I would also love for Bobby to have a hunky boy toy, I think that would be too controversial for the octogenarian crowd that makes up MW's target audience (unfortunately we snarkers are off-target in the Worthiverse). I would also like for the Witless Protection Program to somehow play a part, but I'm afraid that was only used to start this story - not finish it. So here's to falling in love with your junior high crush - Simon LeBon, I'm sending you thoughts of love. (I better put my hair in a ponytail so he gets that message!)
The bracelet on Bobby's wrist- delivered by SRMS. The fate/whereabouts of Senor Jimenez. The what will happen to Diner without Waitress if Gina returns home to NYC to be a WAG. Oh, well, yeah, we already know that. Will they live in the city or the 'burbs? Two hours worth of answers in real life, two months in Worth Standard Time.
It's not over until Mary has endlessly discussed it with her boyfriend, throwing out endless cliches about the joys of love. Then, when he takes the bait and proposes again, she gets to dodge another bullet. That's how she gets her kicks.
How cute on 10/18-Tuesday: their first fight in 10 years. "You found me?! I found you! I've tried so hard finding you for the last two days!"
Mercifully (?!) we may finally shift off this plotline (?!) and back to our transitional Mary/Toby coffee session. And as @mary put it so well yesterday, sadly I also will be back for a refill.
10/18 Tuesday: I was aghast at Bobby's odd phrasing ("I got your package of the bracelet I gave you!") this morning, but my husband pointed out that Bobby's rough life on the mean streets of NYC prevented him from getting an education. It sure doesn't seem that Bobby did much (anything?) to find Gina, does it? These two airheads deserve each other.
I sense a Charterstone Pool Party coming, but probably not until next week. We're stuck with more days of hugging amongst the ugly plants.
Oh Gack! (re:Tuesday) Making a few phone calls, greasing the palm of the Royale delivery goon with a buck, talking endlessly to an odd bitty only AFTER she dodges a bullet... all that constitutes working so hard?
All I can say is it sure was harder than "working" your "job," Gina.
Where is Shmoopie today?? All I could think of when I read "You found me? I found you!" was that Seinfeld episode: "You're Shmoopie!" "No, YOU'RE Shmoopie!"
You just know that something -- the cruel hand of fate -- will come again and do something to break these two lovey-doveys apart. I really don't want that to happen, but you know that Karen Moy is itching to boost the ratings. After that, readership might increase to 20.
I can only conclude that Moy writes in another--doubtless dead--language and runs it through a translation engine. Today's strip definitely had a "the pen of my aunt is on the table of my uncle" air to it.
"I'm so glad you will stay here in Santa Royale with me." "Uh, no, I have to go back to NYC with the Blazers." "I can't move to NYC and leave my new friend Mary Worth. She's awesome." "Well, I'm not moving to this two-bit, crap town." "Oh yeah, well screw you!" "I'm outta here." "Fine." "Fine." The end.
@ Maude 4:06: I still think that IF Bobby's boyfriend is outside parking the car, Gina will STILL follow him back to New York and cling to him (them) forever.

OK.
Next story!
Careful what you wish for, @heydave! We'll be smacking our foreheads and groaning anew, before you know it...
There's not a dry eye on this blog.
(Unfortunately, it's because this story may, finally, be about over.)
Magic! Cue Peaches and Herb!
"Reunited and it feels so good
Reunited 'cuz we understood..."
So thrilled that this story finally, finally, finally, FINALLY has a happy ending.
Or any ending, actually.
I agree with heydave, despite Punky's caveat.
Am I the only one who's disappointed it was Bobby shouting to Gina across the restaurant?
Does that make me a bad person?
That was too easy. When does he tell her he's gay?
I agree with Dave in Parma and Elaine. Is it too much to hope for that in tomorrow's strip Bobby introduces Gina to Karl, his life partner?
Even by the low standards of this strip, this long, drawn-out story line is ending with a whimper. Where is Drunken Jill when we need her?

Sadly, it might be just that dumb.

Remember when we all thought this story might have an interesting twist, like a 9/11 connection or the return of Jill Black?
Silly us. All we got was the world's most boring bottomless cup of coffee.
Sadly, I will be back for a refill tomorrow.
Thats it?

Well here's a plot twist we never envisioned: Bobby Black is radioactive!
"Hi Gina. Nice to see you again. I've got a plane to catch back to NYC. Have a nice life. Bye."
Anyone who thinks this story line is over hasn't been paying attention.
I still think the catch will be that Bobby's boyfriend is outside parking the car, and will come in any moment.
While I would also love for Bobby to have a hunky boy toy, I think that would be too controversial for the octogenarian crowd that makes up MW's target audience (unfortunately we snarkers are off-target in the Worthiverse). My eagerness for closure/complete erasure of this plot has blinded me, I fear.
We need to get treated to at least two weeks of catching up between these Gina and Bobby, and at least one week of general buzziness, don't we?
The bracelet on Bobby's wrist- delivered by SRMS. The fate/whereabouts of Senor Jimenez.

Wow, that was fast. This being "Mary Worth," I thought it would take at least a week for Bobby to cross the lobby to her.
Bobby's in the wrong strip to have a boyfriend. But he could still have a "steady girl" (as Gina would no doubt call her), and I hope he does.
It's not over until Mary has endlessly discussed it with her boyfriend, throwing out endless cliches about the joys of love. Then, when he takes the bait and proposes again, she gets to dodge another bullet. That's how she gets her kicks.

Can we go now?
Are we there yet?

@Punky: Seinfeld quotes seem to find their way into many life episodes!
And that was exactly what was playing in my mind, too.
We all wish, anon@3.22p...
Oh Bobby has a mob connection. He threw the game.
@ Maude 4:06: I still think that IF Bobby's boyfriend is outside parking the car, Gina will STILL follow him back to New York and cling to him (them) forever.
Hurry up, Gina! Table five is waiting for their tuna melt! (which I am sure had gone bad by now)
Thanks for the hug...who are you?
