Gina suddenly looks a bit distressed at the prospect of "catching up."
Bobby: "So what have you been doing for the past ten years?"
Gina: "Me? Ohhh, oh... there isn't that much to tell really. I started working at Diner when I was 17 and have pretty much spent all my time since telling people about our innocent love, fate's cruel hand, and bearing my cross..."
Bobby: "It was nice seeing you again."
I admit I have completely plagiarized today's post from reader comments the last few days. Thanks everyone for making me laugh.

There are certain calculations you should not allow yourself to perform -- like figuring out how much of your monthly mortgage payment is actually interest.
Here's something I wish I hadn't just figured out: Mary walked into DINER on July 25. We have been suffering through this story for 88 days, or 24% of 2011.
That's it? I thought it was much longer.
It's almost time for a "Meanwhile... Moment."
Face touching, dammit!
I didn't come here for the dialog!
And along along I thought Mary Worth WAS the cruel hand of fate. Hmm--learn something every day.
Am curious why Gina looks so upset and Leonard Maltin/James Lipton looks so angry--maybe Gina "worked" at RESTAURANT before DINER?
Boy I can't wait for the next slow, languishing, glacial pace plot to begin!
Yes Mary @6:50A...
Not only time calculations, but also temperature.
When this plot began, daily temperatures were in the mid-90's here. This morning it was 36 degrees.
Wonder what the next lightning-fast story line will be? And how far into Summer 2012 that it will carry us?
Perhaps we should all take a guess at predicting the ending time of the next "tale".
Hmmm. My Guess? First week in April.
Oh my,
I just had to repost because the word verification is now:
"liptork" - which is what Gina and Bobby will be doing later, if he can get past her boring life story without heading for the door.
Best WV ever.
That waiter scares me.
There, I said it.
Geez, look at the difference in Gina's ponytail between panels! It must be the equivalent of a dog's tail wagging; it went from alarm in panel one to beatific smugness in panel two.
Time to move on - who do we think will be the subjects of the next Worthiverse plot? I'm guessing Scott and Adrian, but maybe Moy will introduce a new character who's even dopier than Gina. (Is that even possible?)
@heydave - I think that waiter scares Gina too - she looks scared in the first panel, and the waiter is making a gun shape with his hand. Could he be one of the people her family was hiding from in the waitress protection program?
A quiet table? No problem, as no one ever eats at the cruddy SR Hilton restaurant anyway.
Wanders, can you please tag these posts "James Lipton"? I have a feeling that will cause some amusement in years to come.
I'm not so sure youse guys are on track about what has prompted Gina's facial expression. Since no one has mentioned it, I must step up to the plate and offer alternate explanations: (1) What appears to be the waiter's square (or possibly rectangular) cuff links. For obvious reasons, these would strike alarm in all but the most courageous; (2) What appears to be one of the old school type heating units against the wall --the steam operated radiator; (3) The menu(s). Is this one in which "Menu" has been written on the back, or are there two them being held by our waiter? Can't tell yet.
Gina correctly gives thanks for Mary for getting her and Bobby together, but the story writer also deserves thanks. Had this story never been written, Gina and Bobby would have had no chance of meeting up again. Give credit where credit is due, I say.
Gina certainly does look scared in today's strip. And particularly "dopey", KitKat.
The only thing I want to know - damn it! - is the relationship (if any) between "Jill Black" and "Bobby Black".
I'm almost certain that waiter matches the picture her father gave her of the mob guy she was to watch out for all those years in hiding. He scares me.
And what does she mean by "And Mary Worth"? What did Mary do besides drink a phenomenal amount of coffee and give her a big tip for lousy service? Or does she mean that fate brought her, Bobby, and Mary worth together? Is she asking for a table for 3?
It is distressing to be made aware of the large pieces of my life that pass by with each "story". Thanks, indeed, Mary Worth.
phoebes in santa fe@10:07 a.m., though it pains me to say it, I'd be astounded if there were any connection between Bobby Black and Jill Black. Moy employs a WASP-surname generator and must have forgotten she used "Black" twice. Okay, "Baroni" and "Jiminiz" diverged from the pattern, but the only non-WASP character I recall was Mary's bit-player Mexican gardener many years back. I think he only had a first name. Hmm, maybe Mary and Mitt Romney have something in common!
KitKat@10.57a - that's what I've been saying for weeks now, too. I know I will be cruelly disappointed when I finally know there's no connection.
Mary, are you sure it was just 88 days? My niece was pregnant when Mary walked into DINER and met Gina? I just got back from the kid's high school graduation.
In the past 88 days:
1) Summer ended
2) Quadaffi was killed
3) Occupy Wallstreet started
4) Amanda Knox found not guilty
5) 10 TV shows premiered and were cancelled
6) 10 Billion Houseflies died
7) 37 Different people were the leading contender for the GOP nomination including Millard Fillmore.
8) Snooki got drunk
I think some other stuff happened too.
And there are STILL patrons at Diner who haven't gotten served!
The waiter's odd expression is making me hope that no one is about to use the phrase "dodged a bullet" in his presence. He'll burst into tears and the whole wretched cycle will start all over again.
never trust anyone with facial hair plus i think ginas esp tells her this waiter is probably as bad a waiter as she is a waitress.
Does anyone else see waiter's hand signal?
It's unmistakably an "L" for looser.
... loser
I think this is the mobster that is after Gina's family. Reason 1- he's too detailed to be a minor character. Reason 2- he looks evil. Reason 3- he's making a gun with his fingers. Run, Gina, run!
