Mary Worth 1,169

"Better Buy." Get it? It's word play on the popular retail chain "Good Buy." Sadly, "Good Buy" was run out of business by "Better Buy." And soon, "Better Buy" will close its doors when that well known retailer "Even Better Buy" comes to town.

I for one will be on the edge on my seat until I find out how much the robbers charged at "Better Buy." Way to leave us in suspense, Moy!

I'm sure Mary had already run her borrowing limit into the ground, so no biggie. Plus, she's only accountable for the first $50, or are we not supposed to know that?

VW: slash...... seriously

Oh my goodness!

Little Orphan Annie Wallet Lifter/Spendthrift is in fact: (cue the dramatic music...)

Bonnie! Bonnie Johnson???!!!

Better Buy and Max's Sporting Goods, huh? Those thieves have standards - no Malgreen's or VCS gift cards for them.

Actually, I hope tuffenuf @ 8:24 AM is right. If gift cards for Marcy's are purchased, we'll know that Bonnie Johnson has fallen off the no-shopping wagon.

For our one thrilling moment of watching Mary's wallet get lifted by those empty-eyed bandits, we must now suffer through weeks of excruciating fallout to the "Mary Gets Her Wallet Stolen" storyline, as Mary restores her credit cards one by one (and yes, heydave, she will learn about the $50 maximum liability, which will take a full week). Did we really need to end the year with this, Karen Moy?

For me, it's going to be a tough call, when it comes time to vote for my favorite bit player of the year: the thief couple, just for the fun of watching Mary lose her wallet, or Ham-Fisted Manager. I eagerly await Wanders's poll.

You know who really got screwed by the thieves? Alison. Mary has no time to find Alison a rich lover now that she has to fix her credit. No more lazy, coffee-drinking stays at the diner for Mary for quite a while. Sorry Alison.

Punky, unless "Chin Napkin" makes it back to the strip by year's end and thus is entitled to make an appearance in Wanders' poll, I am voting for the Little Orphan Annie-like blank-eyed thieves.

Oh, and when will "Best Buy" make the store list? "Better Buy", "Even Better Buy", "Best Buy"?

Though, I will say in Moy's defense, making a list of your cards and the numbers to call really is a good idea. I've been doing it for years and Moy's column made me realise it might be time to update the list.

Thanks Karen Moy.

I bet it's a week before Mary, to her relief, is told that she is not responsible for the fraudulant charges.

@Anonymous 11:12 - True, but Mary will want to make things right. And the writing on the wall says that Mary will want to meddle in the lives of the thieves, and turn their sorry paths in a new direction. Perhaps only then they'll find that love is the only way they can be.

At least they didn't run up the card at the SantaRoyalMart.

It's too bad Mary's credit is messed up. Now she won't be able to replace that phone with one that doesn't keep giving her electric shocks in her ear. That must be very distracting.

Just realized that with that string of pearls, Mary is starting to look alarmingly like... Barbara Bush.

Punky, does that mean that Mary won't waste her beautiful mind on fixing the lives of the thieves?

@phoebes in santa fe: Chin napkin has already made his appearance. Just before the wallet got swiped.

But is the performance worthy of a Worthy?

Wanders, I did not see chin napkin in that strip. What am I missing here? And, in case, Chin Napkin was ROBBED of the award last time, as I remember.
