This is wonderful news! I guess it was all worth it in the end. Worth every penny! Who ever would have guessed that something as inconvenient as a major maritime disaster would have had such a delightful outcome.
Today's Full Strip
I really don't like how predictable everything is when it comes to character development. You're never worried about a character's character because they will always come around to how the old meddlers in Charterstone want them to become/revert back to.
Will dawn and Wilbur be coming back to the US on the Lusitania or Amelia Earhart Airlines?
Steven W.- The Westons have chosen Hindenburg II for their return trip.
My hope is that Wilbur, having admitted that life IS brutal, will return home to lounge in a lavender sweatsuit on the couch and watch endless episodes of Dallas.
Panel one comments:Dang, when did Mary develop that awful dorsocervical fat pad (a.k.a "buffalo hump")? Maybe it's from her sitting hunched over at her computer, diligently working on the "Ask Wendy" column.Ian and Toby should watch out for that patio umbrella sneaking up on them. I think Giella forgot to draw circling lines around Mary's hands, to indicate that she is emphasizing "Dawn started their trip without any spirit..."
I'm obsessed with that missing inch of beard on Professor Chinbeard's face today. Does he shave it? And if so, why? And I love the iron grip that Toby has on her man, in case there are any prowling Nolas about.
Will somebody please buy Moy a thesaurus? Or at least an app for one? ATTENTION KAREN MOY: Stop using the word "incident", when what you mean is "tragedy" or "disaster".No wonder we so little of Ian. At least Wilbur provides some comedy, but Ian is a waste of space--and he seems to be wasting even more of it lately. He must have been eating Wilbur's share of Santa Royale's sandwich production this summer.
@fauxprof--you absolutely "stole" my comment today, which wasAnd this plot's Secret Word is INCIDENT.
"Shocked awake" rang a big bell, so I searched Wanders' excellent archives and found this from Mary Worth 1,277 (April 17, 2012): http://maryworthandme.blogspot.com/search/label/Nola%20WolvensonSpeaking of Nola, is that why Toby is clutching Ian like that? "That hussy Nola may be nearby!"
So that's Ian, aka Professor Chinbeard? I had not met him before. He looks like a bad man.A caricature of a woodsy doofus, but still bad, likely.
Many people were "shocked awake" by World War II, too. But, in most cases, the war was the bigger story.
Dawn may be plotting how to drown Dave in the Cornerstone pool and make it look like an accidental "incident." Mary can then say something putrid like how the silver lining about the "incident" is that Dawn will be free to move on to someone new.
Unanswered questions from this and other brutal MW stories.1)what was the bullet that Mary dodged.2)was Nola's man having an affair.3)what didn't the captain of the Good Ship Lollipop see.4)since the above ship had lost all power, how did they turn it around
When I look at Mary in today's panel, I block out the actual dialogue and hear her say, "And Dawn caught a fish THIS BIG while she was waiting to be rescued! So you see, to every 'incident,' there is indeed a silver lining!"
Of course 3,998 others died in the "incident" but it was for a good cause. Dawn was shocked awake.Note to Self: Next time in Santa Royale, be sure to shock Dawn by dropping a toaster into her bathtub.
Dawn may have have been shocked awake, but I was bored to sleep.Maybe there will be a pool party to celebrate their return.
It seems to me that the "incident" would be confirmation that life is indeed brutal. I expect Dawn to have a severe case of survivors remorse and for the sake of us all, confine herself to a convent, take a vow of silence, and never be heard from again.
Thanks for all the laughs today, I need them! Heading north to take daughter #2 to college :( We'll try to swing by Santa Royale on the way back to crash the upcoming pool party. There is going to be splashy pool fun to celebrate that successful shipwreck/shock Dawn incident, right?
So "without any spirit" is code for "ungrateful, obnoxious, sullen brat"?
The salmon squares at the pool party will be made from the salmon Dawn caught while waiting for the Italian Coast Guard. It will be a little...off.--Beagle Vet
Maybe I'm just an old lady reminiscing, but I think Dawn's heartache could have been solved for the price of a few nights out at the local bars, and meeting another guy that would make her say ''Dave WHO?''
i would volunteer to be that guy. i think she's hot !!!
..."oh, wow, that's awesome, Mary! Now let me tell you about an incident that happened to Chinbeard and me in Scotland...we were, like, TEN MINUTES late getting back to our tour bus, and we thought they would, like, drive off without us!! That really woke us up!"
And what about the Keno twins? Did they go down with the ship?
