Mary Worth 1,395

I've worked so hard to give you order, to establish an existence of continual bliss and prosperity. If you, my minions, do not adhere to the Mary Worth creed, your species will cease to exist. I am Mary Worth. You are mine. You must obey.

So, all your base are belong to Mary?

Resistance is futile.

And this is dumb.

The computer is talking directly to Mary, in a feminized Hal-voice. It is the voice of the overlord(lady), the dread Goddess Moy.

If the concrete canyons are meant to illustrate the quality and structure of our lives, I'm not sure Mary is buying it. Her expression reminds me of a lolcat saying "do not want".

(This might not be totally "family friendly", but I just have to ask)

What in HELL is this woman talking about?

Oh, meg! Perfect!

If Mary is putting forth the idea that People Helping People is The True Way, why oh why is the accompanying illustration that of a "concrete jungle"--one of the ways in which Modern Society has made our world more impersonal and cold and unfriendly? Aren't M&G aware of the Urban Mentality? The "dog eat dog", "rat race" ethos of the big city?

Or are we to think that is why Mary looks so glum...that she is already foreseeing the Final Destruction Of Mankind?

Wow.

This strip is headed in a decidedly dark direction. Life IS brutal.

Or maybe that little Diner girl will come in and bring Mary some rainbow swirl sherbet and invite her to a party.

How odd... as her platitudes have become inflated, her computer monitor has shrunk.

I'm worried about Mary's eyes, working at the computer sooo long. C'mon, time for a break!

Watching Metropolis over and over would make me feel the same way as Mary and her talking pixel.

A reminder that kindness is the cornerstone of our civilization is not out of line. In fact, Mary Worth might very realistically be portrayed as a worn and worried old lady who remembers a time when honesty, honor, kindness and compassion were regarded as the highest values and when the opposite of these would have been appalling.

Bravo to Moy for the reminder.

I'm hoping the Borg Queen appears and takes on Mary. Resistance is futile indeed!

That could very well be true, but the disaster was seen through the eyes of Wibur and Dawn who did NOTHING to exhibit those qualities, even though we were clearly told that Dawn is a "strong swimmer". I was waiting for it; I really was. I wanted Dawn to lift that little girl up and let her get the first helicopter ride to safety.

I think it's sad that Moy has to comment as "Anonymous".

I'm imagining that tomorrow we'll see Dawn on stage at the Bum Boat, dressed in a gauzy full-length gown (with a sailor collar), and singing,,,

People,
People who need people
Are the LUCKIEST people... in the world...

@Not Moy - I'm not Moy either. I'm just a reader who had a hard time swallowing a shift from "this has nothing to do with the story" to "Mary is an 'empire builder', demanding 'obedience' to her 'creed' onto her 'minions'." It smacked of politics, which I trust Mary Worth and Me to avoid.

I feel like I slipped into the Twilight Zone while reading the 6:00 posting. :-(

I'm not so worried about politics as about the fact that that city seems to lack streets entirely. People are trapped in those buildings.

Send in the helicopters! Maybe Dawn will surprise us by having become a rescue volunteer.

The authorities need to go to Moy's house and check on her.

KitKat, I saw Alice Krige, aka the Borg Queen, at a recent Star Trek convention. She is incredibly eloquent and elegant...very much like her character in Chariots of Fire.

End of tangent! :)
