You know how when you take an English sentence and you put it in Google Translate, and then translate it back to English, the results can be hilarious? I did that with Dawn's sentence and got this:

"I like to walk along the pier. Let's go together later."

Google Translate: 1. Karen Moy: Zero.

Jim looks like he's about to perform a magic trick.

I guess we are supposed to be teetering in suspense as to what form Jim's protective impulses will take. Yeah, yeah, he's probably going to kidnap her and lock her up in the attic or basement to keep her safe. Yawn.

Maybe we will get to see Dr. Adrian's policeman husband again, as the six-month search for Dawn ensues. (Though I wonder why he didn't show up for the Emily-from-Goleta kidnapping case.)

Dawn's disposition turns on a dime, doesn't it? Yesterday she glared at Jim ("Jim...let go of my arm"), but today she looks blissful, like she's still hopeful that she and Jim will make beautiful music together. Someone with the immaturity level of Dawn should not be counseling ANYONE. And, her helmet hair has reached a new low - oy.

I'm hoping Jim's mother is single so she and Wilbur can marry, thus making Dawn and Jim step-siblings. Jim would be thrilled to have a new sister!

To Dawn: That's what she said.

How did Jim get his had under the tray like that? Impressive.

Nice to see Dawn balancing her drink on her netbook.

I'm having trouble deciphering what, exactly, Dawn's interest is in Jim. Is she crushing on him? Does she see him as her Project? I'm confused.

And have you all noticed how Jim has aged since he has been having these sessions with Dawn? At first, he looked young and unlined. Now he looks rugged and careworn.

I'm hoping Jim snaps at The Pier and shoves her in with his Good Arm. "Ha! Take THAT, you insensitive brat. I always wanted to be an only child!"

Tuesday and Wednesday:
Dawn: Let's take a long walk off a short PIER and talk by the water.
Jim: No I can't and I can't let YOU either.[It's not safe]

Dawn:(frown) Let go of my arm
Jim: I want you safe.
Dawn: I can take care of

Dawn: [paraphrase] We can walk along the PIER together.
Jim: Okay

Okay??? What???? How can this babble (balderdash, blather, bunk, double-talk, gibberish, gobbledygook, hogwash, hooey, jabber, nonsense, poppycock, rot, rubbish, tripe, and twaddle)get past an editor? There are not enough words to describe how poorly written this strip is. Every time I think Moy's writing can't get worse, it gets worse. Someone please make it stop.

Oh, SNAP. When Google Translate writes better English than you, it's time to rethink your life. Or at least take a remedial composition course.

@Nance, 10:28 am. I've begun to think Dawn sees Jim as her Project. I've decided she's too immature/narcissistic to want a one-armed boyfriend. Pop psychology and the benevolent presence of her teenness should be curative powers enough for anyone.

Man, Dawn's face looks like it might've gone through Google Translate...
