Tough words from a woman who can't control the shape of her face!
Today's Full Strip
Since Elinor is dismissive of divorce, does this mean she's still married to the husband who walked out on her? And, will she follow up that "Plain Jane" remark with, "You know what Dorothy Parker said about girls who wear glasses!"Shopping reminder to Beth: Only five more weeks until Mother's Day!
If Beth were to write to "Ask Wendy", she would recieve a bargeload of pious platitudes. However, the old real-world standards of "Ann Landers" or "Dear Abby" would tell her that this relationship is toxic, that if you allow yourself to be a victim, you will continue to be a victim, get counseling, and GET OUT!Alas, the Worthiverse is not the real world.
LOL! Thanks for the Secret Mention, Wanders! At least now we know why Super Tom Harpman became more and more buff.It was so that Elinor could use this line! I think Beth has a lot of potential. (Wondering: Is Mary Worth's middle name...KAY???!!!)
@Nance: Is the answer to the Dorothy Parker Question "they can't see the reflection in patent leather shoes?"
I remember as a younger, immature male (as opposed to the younger, middle-aged immature male I am now) guys saying that if you want to see what a girl will look like in 20-30 years to look at their mother.I'm thinking that Tom Harpman would be fine with the plain-Jane look. it's the Lola-nor look that should have him concerned.
This from a woman who looks like Willem Dafoe after a rough night.
Back away, Beth - Elinor is going to start levitating and hurling green foam any minute now!
@Dave in Parma at 9:49 AM, per Dorothy Parker, "Men seldom make passes at girls who wear glasses." However, it would be fabulous if Dr. Jeff made a pass at Elinor.
@KitKat: was with you, just mixing together 'men seldom make passes at girls in glasses', and 'do black patent leather shoes really reflect up.' Not my finest work. Maybe Beth will heed mama Lola's advice (or Willem Dafoe's--good call out Yahoonski), and go floozy.Beth, as seen doing the 'Mary Worth' popularized finger point:http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-7olxHvfIAvI/T5HX-EJA-eI/AAAAAAAAAjE/IANdS6PRmQc/s1600/Velma3.jpgAnd for the record, I like girls who wear glasses. I married one.
If Eninor found a husband anyone can, except maybe Dawn.
Despite having been dead for nearly 10 years, Katharine Hepburn appears as a stand-in for Christopher Walken in panel one. Willem Dafoe does the honors in panel two. Who's up next- Mick Jagger?
Beth, ask Mary for the name of a nice nursing home! On the other hand, maybe a not-so-nice one...
Ooh, ooh! I want to see Elinor jump out of bed and do that Walken dance thing when Beth leaves the room! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZLidy7pIQ8
Elinor is too controlling her face! She's making herself look like Boris Karloff to horrify Beth into obedience!!
Even the picture of the Blessed Virgin on Beth's wall looks sad for her.
Why is whatever the heck that blue thing is in front of Beth, not reflected back in the mirror?
The Plain Jane remark was painful, but what really haunts Beth are memories of being called Extra Elbow Elizabeth by the kids at school.
