Mary Worth 1773

After all Mary has done to eradicate drugs from Santa Royale, Tommy's returning? This just can't be. Like the Pied Piper, he will lead the vermin back. Heh heh. I said "Pied Piper."

It looks like Mary is losing her dentures!

It's good to know that Mary Worth can experience emotions other than smugness.

Platitude your way outta this one, sister!

Wow, from self-aggrandizing smirk to horror struck in a nanosecond! It's surprising that Mary didn't spit her coffee/tea/whatever in Wilbur's face. BTW, she's worried about Iris, not Tommy. Mary has resented meddler-wannabee Iris for years, and all signs point to Iris as an uber-helicopter parent. What would a convicted felon who's been released to society need less than his hovering Mom "helping him transition"?

I went to Joshreads to see what Tommy looked like. When he's dreaming of having his own meth lab, he's a ringer for the new refreshed Bruce Jenner, right down to the bouffant hair.

Is Tommy old enough to be a possible love interest for Frannnie's mom?
(Please say yes.)

Even the painting behind Mary gathers stormclouds on the horizon, and Wilbur's blueberry muffin has turned into a BelVita biscuit or a piece of cheese.

Perhaps Mary can suggest he transition to Promise Haven, and she can go ahead to see to the arrangements. I know a certain Man-About-Town who would be happy to take her to some shabby restaurants and buy her some mundane accoutrements from some street vendors while she was there.

I expect that Miss Moy and Uncle Joe will eventually submit a series of blank comic strip panels to see if anyone is still reading.

Gosh, I hope Tommy still has that stupid sausage curl ponytail. And maybe some prison trays to make him irresistibly attractive to Dawn.

I can hear the tea cup clattering. I love it! Yes, Mary, Tommy is coming back, and he's gonna rock your world! I can hardly wait.

But, please, please, please, give us a pool party before the next plot starts! I miss Toby and would like to see her again.

Good work, Joe! It's expressions like this that keep us reading the strip.

Prison TATS not trays. Gosh-darn autocorrect.

We can guess what Mary's first Wendy column is going to be about. It's gonna get ugly.

FRIDAY

That is the stupidest reason to take a break from your job! If Iris is going to take classes, she's not going to be around 24/7 to make you sandwiches, Wilbur.

BUT--this is a better development than more of Frannie's mom's woes. And hopefully, Tommy WILL rock Mary's world!

Once again, Karen Moy has been toying with us. I'm betting that we are NOT going to see released felon Tommy and his readjustment to life outside the slammer. This was once again just a pretext to have Mary become Wendy. Be prepared for tedium, people .

Since Wilbur appears to be independently wealthy (the on-again, off-again advice column his only ostensible means of support), why doesn't he chuck it all and devote all his time to eating? (Whoops, and to Iris, of course!)

I'm still hoping that Dawn gets attracted to bad-boy Tommy. We're about due for another boyfriend disaster for Dawn.

By the way, Wilbur, most of us are able to sustain a relationship AND hold a job at the same time. And these are usually jobs where you actually have to leave the house.

Happy valentine's Day, and hope all of you on the east coast and south avoid the nasty weather.

So Wilbur can just ask people to do his job for him? Does his employer care, or did Wilbur clear it in advance?

Wilbur: "Well boss, I'd like to have someone else cover the advice column I write under a woman's name for awhile so i can try to get back with Iris."

Boss: "Do you have anyone in mind?"

Wilbur: "yes-- an old matron who lives in my condo complex."

Boss: "You're fired."

Quitting your job usually isn't the best way to impress the woman you are trying to court.

Is it just me, or is the strip looking even more than usually bizarre? Yesterday (or the day before?) we had the revelation that Mary's condo includes some kind of railroad car/lanai/sunroom never seen before; Wilbur is morphing frame-by-frame in way that beggars even what happened to poor K2; and today Mary has what can only be thoughtful of anime-eyes, so shocked is she by the prospect of that druggie coming back to Charterstone.

I think either poor Mr. Giella is having pinstrokes, or he's given up entirely and Moy is drawing the thing panel by panel by tracing from old strips.

When Mary says "I've always liked Iris" the translation is "I really can't stand Iris".

Mary will sweetly sabotage every move Wilbur makes--for his own good, of course.
