Tommy has a long history with Santaroymart. He used to buy is drugs at the warehouse. Ironically, my best memories of this strip are at the Santaroymart warehouse.
Could Moy have come up with a name any clunkier than "Santaroymart"? My dreaded autocorrect doesn't even know what to do with the word, it just underlines it and goes "huh?".
As for Tommy, I'm sure that the establishment has had other shoplifters in the ten or twelve years since he was sixteen, so his picture is probably not on the security office wall anymore.
Moy is clunky in other ways, e.g., Tommy's thought bubbles providing exposition to his criminal past. I'm surprised she didn't go farther back than 16, like the time in 4th grade when Tommy stole a classmate's lunch money.
Wilbur is the last person who should be giving career advice to anyone.
So, doesn't everyone at the table know of Tommy's criminal past? I get that they are all trying to be pleasant and polite, but come on. Can't Mary just quote someone and get all this wild gesticulating and goofy bubbling over with before May?
I see Tommy at the table as well as Wilbur and Iris. Mary must have made a trip to the kitchen to refill a pitcher with plain water because Alfred Hitchcock has clearly taken her seat, making one of his famous cameo appearances.
Man, I usually love the pounding that some of these unfortunate souls receive from Mary Worth and her posse. Yet, I wish Iris would really just been like maybe I should think of Tommy's recovery instead of being embraced by Wilbur's hairy arms and double chin.
Is it just me or is Wilbur really treating us to so very many impressions of late? From stroke victim to creepy stalker. Today, it seems to be Jack Nicholson's Joker.
How thoughtful of Mary to point out that Iris is (ahem) "mature." "What? All the other students will be younger than me?! I hadn't thought of that! Mary, you are too kind!"
Neither Mary nor Wilbur (if he's still conscious) have asked Iris her major. Criminal justice perhaps? Meanwhile, my reaction to Iris's gaze and "my dear Tommy" is "yeeuw."
I've been involved in higher education for over 35 years, starting as a non-traditional student in fact, and it doesn't require "bravery". Dedication, stamina, and a good sense of humor maybe. Does Mary think that Iris will be devastated because she won't be invited to join the cool sorority or make the cheerleading squad?
The worst accusation leveled at me as a non-trad was "are you going to wreck the curve?" To which I answered "Darn right." And did.

In my previous comment, I should have typed "further," not "farther." Mea culpa, mea culpa...

Tommy looks like an emoting Swoosie Kurtz today.
I'm really enjoying all the dramatic facial expressions Joe is giving us with this new plot. So exciting!

Sigh! Wilbur is so dreamy!

FRIDAY
Mary slowly dumps the contents of her spoon onto Iris' lap, so to get Iris to leave the room and get some real alone-meddling time with Tommy.

Don't worry, Tommy, they won't remember you at Santaroymart. I mean, none of us remembers you, either.
"I applaud your bravery" - when people say this, they're actually saying you're stupid.
