Whoa, whoa, whoa, Hanna... slow down. When Mary says, "Let me know if I can do anything for you," it's a little presumptuous of you to actually ask her for help, don't you think?
Today's Full Strip
"Feel free to contact me" is a classic brush-off line, Hanna.
"If I can do anything else for you, feel free to contact me via the submission form on my website. I generally check that once a month as long as I'm not busy writing Wilbur's "Ask Wendy" column. So, if you're planning on hosting Thanksgiving dinner for Amy, Gordon, and Amy's brother, send me a short shopping list (and I do mean SHORT) and I might pick up a few things for you some time November-ish."
"I wish I could do more. I mean, I know that you've bared your soul--and your problems to me--and I could definitely offer to babysit, have you over, drive you places, have my Boyfriend The Doctor consult with you about your eyesight, and all kinds of other things, but I'm happy to grab a few things from Food Team for you now and then. When it's convenient for me, of course."
If Mary REALLY wanted to help Hanna out, she would give her the number to the local Department of Aging, who could hook her up with that AARP program that could increase her driving skills and help her evaluate if she should stop instead of just depending on Mary Worth's unscientific analysis. . .It's knee jerk reactions like Mary's that get us doing dumb stuff. OK, I know these are comic strip characters, but who among us is immune to Hanna's situation. . .Sorry for the early morning speech.
"I wish I could do more, but, you know, I'm awfully busy writing an advice column and attending to my Charterstone affairs."
@LouiseF--If KM didn't do PSA strips and act like she was Helping, then your criticism would be moot. As it is, you're right. So, you don't have to be sorry.
Has anyone else noticed that Hanna's hair is always just a little bit disheveled? Quite the opposite of Mary's hair helmet, which is firmly shellacked in place. A clear sign that Hanna should no longer drive!
@Shmoopie at 1:13 pm, maybe Mary recommends that Hanna not wield a comb or hair dryer. She could seriously injure a Charterstone resident! Also, I love your observation about Mary's hair helmet being firmly shellacked in place. Remember how her hair snapped back not long after she rescued Olive from the pool?
