Mary Worth 2185

So, what have I taken away from all this? Apparently, Heloise is polite. This story has made me a better person. Thank you.

And Heloise thinks "What a nosy, old bat. There's no way I would have paid for a ride with her."

Oh that Mary and her snap judgments. I bet she would have thought that Ted Bundy was a friendly and well-mannered young person who was finding his way in the world too.

No appearances by Heloise or Mary in today's Phantom, so I guess that's it for the crossover. The emergency dispatcher in the third panel looks like a young Jimmy Carter.

As exciting as this crossover interlude was, we can be sure that Mary's stay with the Taylors will be a breathtaking thrill ride. Can't we? Oh, well, maybe Mary will take Olive to the Radio City Christmas show. We missed that last time, and betcha Joe could really do justice to the Rockettes!

What a clever device, this diversion! Brilliant way to build suspense and add to all the burning questions we've been left with: 1.) how many more days will it take for this cab ride to end at the Taylors?, 2.) what will TeeHeeEd/Evy say when they find out Mary intends to stay "for a few weeks"?, 3.) has Olive gotten off her medication and is back to hallucinating flower fairies again?, 4.)will this whole thing once again turn into a major snooze-fest?

Since we had the Phantom ruminating yesterday on what was happening in New York while busting heads, I suspect we may yet have another interchange between Heloise and Mary...The Olive story is so bizarre, I imagine her teaming up with the Ghost Who Walks as Mary looks on, marvelling about how lovely it is to help a well-mannered junior psychic, making her way in the world...

How a real crossover could have worked:

- Mary befriends Heloise and receives a P/P necklace in gratitude and friendship
- Later during her stay in NYC, a mugger tries to accost Mary/Olive/the family
- The Phantom, secretly on holiday visiting his daughter, intervenes
- The legend of Phantom extends into NYC. Mary adds some value to Olive's family.

But why use developed character traits and abilities.
Much better for us to be left saying "what was that all about?"

I find it fascinating that the Phantom dwells within the Worthiverse. Who knew? Will Mary be invited to join the Legion of Superheros? Will she travel to Gotham City or Metropolis? Will Uncle Joe finally have something interesting to draw? The possibilities are endless.

So the Phantom doesn't have some secret communication device in his uniform, and has to borrow a phone from the guy he just beat up?

And Mary is going to be in New York for several weeks at least. I wonder what Olive's parents will think of that.

The Phantom will talk with his daughter on the phone, find out all about the lovely, polite, pleasant lady from Santa Royale, then he will jet over to New York and take out the competition! ... Will he "take out" Mary Worth in a fatal manner? Or will he "take out" Mary Worth to a hip pizza joint? ... Stay tuned!

Wanders, I agree with you. This story has made me a better person ... but I'm still an evil twin!
