Mary Worth 2209

There's more coming up! I'll definitely stay tuned. I'd been planning an expensive NYC trip with my family this Christmas, but now I don't have to! This has been even better than the real thing.

Today's full strip

We were not informed that a trip to the Blue Oar meant a trip out of the City. The restaurant is located on the Connecticut River in Haddam, CT and has plenty for dear Olive to choose from. http://blueoarct.wix.com/ctrestaurants

It looks quite rustic, so perhaps elbows on the table are acceptable.

Thanks for the tip, @smooth. The comments from people who have patronized that place don't jibe with the white tablecloth/odd draperies pictured here. One of the reviewers says that "the BYOB is a good deal." Perhaps Ed will pull a bottle out when dinner arrives. And just wit until he and Mary arm-wrestle over the check!

"just wait," that is...

Will Mary get stuck with the tab for this meal, too? When will she tell the parents that she's taking their daughter back to Santa Royale?

Evy (to waiter): That will be separate checks, please. One for my husband and myself, one for the elderly lady, and one for the little girl.
Olive: But, Mommy...
Evy: Olive, we must allow our senior citizens to remain independent. Let's not be insensitive.
Olive: But, Mommy...
Evy: And it's time for you to start learning responsibility. Why do you think we grant you an allowance?
Olive: But, Mommy...
Evy: Didn't you bring your piggy bank? Then you shouldn't have ordered the grilled cheese sandwich with chips. You'll have to wash dishes, unless your friend Mary will float you a loan. Perhaps she charges less interest than First National Daddy.

Evy: Yeah yeah yeah, fun outings to places ... whatever ... More outings coming up? OK ... Tee hee, Eddie!

KitKat: At least the reviewer didn't recommend the BYOF!

Another dinner table without napkins. Uncle Joe must have a beef with Chin Napkin. This boycott is unjustified and I want an explanation.

All that talk of darkness yesterday has me wondering if Ed and Evy's days are numbered and if this strip is about to be renamed Little Orphan Olive.

Just checked out the real life Blue Oar online. It would appear to be an outdoor, casual marina restaurant where people eat at picnic tables. Research indicates it is a seasonal place, and no matter how mild recent weather has been east of the Mississippi so far this December--Blue Oar isn't open just now. Unless they have a pricey upscale Manhattan location.

Why is the table 3' wide on Mary's end and 6' wide on Evy's end?

I was just about to comment on Monday's strip, when Tuesday's strip was just posted! Score!

MONDAY
Olive: "Great! I loved it! Mary and I had a GOOD TIME!"
Evy: "Olive, dear, please use your inside voice."
Ed: "Olive, dear, it's great that you're using correct grammar--Mary and I--I'm impressed! But, please, you're not fooling anyone with your overemphasis on the 'good time' you had. I can tell you were really bored."
Mary: "Olive, dear, you have such lovely parents!"
Olive: "Thank you, dear lady!"

TUESDAY
So much to love! The table has shrunken, bringing everyone into a more intimate relationship ... whether they like it or not! Passive-aggressive comments (everyone's favourite!) from both Taylors but not from Mary! (At least not yet.) Dig it!
