Perfect, Wanders. Jeff and Mary, just going through the motions, and neither they nor we are buying it anymore. What's intriguing is Jeff's giant car, which seems to be gliding over the water on the way to the restaurant.
Not only are they both staring off into space as they deliver their compliments in P2, but Jeff is doing an eye roll that totally belies his sincerity.
I just can't get past the thought that Jeff looks almost exactly like Ralph Waite, who played the father on "the Waltons"... You would never have seen Ralph's chest hair, though. Ever since Jeff picked Mary up at the airport, we have been treated to visions of his chest hair in every daily strip, including even appearing in Mary's floating head vision. Does this portend some racy plot line? Hope springs eternally.
Jeff is going to dump Mary. He has found someone else. When he told Mary that she has a lot of friends and that he doesn't have to worry about her, he was convincing himself that she'll be OK when he gives her the heave-ho.
Reminds me of the movie Prizzi's Honor when Jack Nicholson and Kathleen Turner are throwing out half hearted "I Love You's" while plotting each others murder.
Tonight, Jeff is going to propose to Mary! AGAIN! ... But this time, Mary is going to accept! ... Except she will insist on maintaining separate apartments, since she really doesn't want to have to interact with Jeff on a daily basis. ... Monthly will do.

Fun!
Does anyone remember what the last Actual Plot was in this comic strip? I honestly have no idea. What a sweet racket KM has with this gig.

Wanders, that's inspired!
@fauxprof, maybe Jeff traded his vintage boat for a giant car/boat combo. Who knows, maybe it can fly, too.
Why don't Jeff and Mary ever go to the Marina Royale restaurant? I'd like to see them accosted by a mugger on the boardwalk.

Whenever these two dolts drive around there is a full moon in the unclouded sky. How romanticle!

In the actual strip, Jeff has Marty Feldman eyes. In the animation, he looks like Anthony "Carlos Danger" Weiner.
