"No pain no gain. Wherever you are, begin. Boldness has magic in it. A year from now you may wish that you started today. People with goals succeed because they know where they are going. It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain."

The folks in Santa Royale don't go in for those trendy, high-fashion yoga outfits. They just wear their jammies.
Is changing one's clothes in a nanosecond a yoga exercise? Harlan Jones is wearing black shorts (or briefs) in the first panel and long blue pants in the second.
"What a relief to see A FRIENDLY FACE!" Dawn acts like she's walking into a den of lions.
If the professor tells Dawn "Please call me Harlan," there could be a Title IX tale in the offing.
Is anyone keeping a tally of the number of times we've read the word Inspiration or some form of it? I'm sure we're at about Eleventy Billion so far.
Also, this Storyline is feeling Icky to me. ("But, Dean Smartboss, we're Just Friends!") Ugh.
By Jove, I think she's got it. Or, in Dawn's case, not.
The girl in the ponytail is about to get flipped right off her ant-covered yoga mat
Uh, Dawn. Although yoga class can be brutal, people usually greet one another by invoking the Divine. You're not being deployed to Afghanistan.
At first glance, I thought ponytail girl was about to be pulled around the room on her mat by the UPS guy. I used to do that with my toddler son who got a big kick out of it.
Instructor doing yoga + dense student = creepy. Also in panel one, Harlan looks a little constipated.
I believe KM meant to say a "familiar" face. All those yoga adherents would certainly show a friendly face to Dawn.
This plot was inspired by Gilmore Girls - where Yale student Paris is inspired by Professor and noted author Asher Fleming. (Spoiler alert: he dies of a heart attack)
If Dawn thinks she's seeing a friendly face now - just wait until Harlan does a downward dog.
Those yoga mats don't look like the soft cushy mattresses at the Pax Wellness Center. But then, they also look like they're floating in midair, so maybe they don't have to be.
Too bad they don't have yoga mattresses to nap on like Pax did.
This strip hits a little too close to home for me, Looking to try new things and meet new people (as a 30 year old teenager, just like Dawn), I decided to take a yoga class. There I met a man who was a teacher and an artist. In fact, he was the yoga class teacher. Reader, I married him, pretty much immediately thereafter. Good luck, Dawn!
So the professor can apparently put his sweat pants on pretty quickly.
It's not simply about the use of cliches .... it's the particular combination here. If (1) nothing ventured, nothing gained, and (2) here goes nothing, i.e., "i'm venturing nothing", then it follows: (3) nothing gained. So, for those expecting to wade through five weeks of snail's-pace excitement in the vain hope of Dawn finding love, Moy is telegraphing the outcome very clearly: don't keep your hopes up!
