Wait! Wait! Dawn Weston? And that sandwich looks like actual FOOD!! What has happened in the Worthiverse?? I'll tell you what has happened. June Brigman has taken over drawing the Sunday strips to give Joe Giella a very much deserved one-day-a-week off! I was worried that she might be completely replacing Joe, whom I adore, obviously, and that perhaps something was wrong with Joe, but this is great. Sundays off for Joe. Take a day off. You deserve it! And, yes, June's pretty awesome too.
You can read more about June here.

I...I feel a great disturbance in the Force...
EARTHQUAKE IN SANTA ROYALE!
Holy realism, Batman! June Brigman should draw "Mary Worth" every day! Dawn and Harlan actually look like people who might be attractive to one another! A sandwich really looks like a sandwich! You can actually tell what food Harlan is eating--a burger with fries and even a little paper ketchup holder!!! There are ice cubes in the soft drink and condensation on the glass! Pass me the smelling salts!
On to today's strip:
--It is days later (or at least 20 minutes in strip time), and Dawn has yet to take even one bite of her sandwich. Is she really Wilbur's daughter?!?
--What college professor takes ONE student out for lunch and then asks this ONE student how well prepared she is for the upcoming quiz? FAVORITISM!--You know that an affair will be hinted at over and over and over for weeks, but nothing will ever happen, since, well, nothing much ever does happen, does it? (Or am I being too snarky?)
--Harlan is no longer wearing his green sports jacket, and Dawn is no longer wearing her white lab coat. Does this symbolize that scientific objectivity is being jettisoned from the relationship?
--Diner actually looks like a place I would go to eat lunch at.
--Vocabulary alert! One of the uptight, gossipy students says, "Hmmph!" I LOVE IT!
Uncle Lumpy at Comics Curmudgeon has some extra info on the new artist, here: http://joshreads.com/
OK. I've calmed down. She's a very good artist. Harlan looks attractive rather than creepy, and I hate Dawn's hair in a whole new way. But I'm sad. I've grown so fond of Uncle Joe's wonderfully wierd take on things. I can't help thinking the Batman portrait was his way of saying goodbye to us. My understanding is that he'll still be drawing the daily strip for a while, but if he wants to retire, he has certainly earned it and God bless him.
On a side note, I wish this new artist could have taken over Apartment 3G. Think of what she could have done with Margo and company!
Continuity Alert: Dawn Weston usually has blue eyes.
Today's strip is taking me back to the days of "Brenda Starr" -- all Dawn needs are those twinkly rays shooting from her ingenue eyes. Harlan already sports a Basil St. John curlicue, although his mustache has shrunk, alas.
I don't know about this... so, tomorrow, Dawn will once again be wearing her pink top, her eyes will be blue under her helmet hair, and Harlan will be back in his green suit? Who thinks this is a good idea? Plus, I'm with you fauxprof. Half the fun of Mary Worth is trying to figure out what Uncle Joe has put on the plate! No offense, June, but Uncle Joe, can't you just draw a two or three strips a day so you can take it easy on the weekends?
George Harrison may have spoken those words at some point in his life, but he never sings them in the song "Devil's Radio."
Apart from the clunky dialogue, what are we going to make fun of? The artwork is gorgeous! I bet these people even know how to hold and use utensils!!!
I can't wait until to see June's take on Ian and Toby.
Continuity between Joeworld and alternate reality Sundays is going to be weird. I am looking forward to seeing the new take on everything: Mary, Mary's kitchen, the Bum Boat, etc.
In the spirit of poking fun, I would like to point out that Dawn appears to have taken the daintiest possible bite of her sandwich between panels two and four.
Maybe she'll throw in three arms every now and then just for old time's sake.
Dawn isn't wearing purple. My. Mind. Is. Blown.
she almost always has brown eyes, going back to the Saunders/Giella heyday
