Mary Worth 2325

"Dawn, I wanted to paint my nails to match my pillows, drapes and highly polished flooring, but I don't have nearly enough polish for my gloriously colossal thumb? Do you have any purple polish I might procure from you?"

Oh, so that's what the Debate Scandal was about. Someone on city council granted Mary a variance so she could substitute purple drapes for the statutory pink ones. There have been rumors of undue influence, even outright bribery. And let's not even get started on the purple throw pillows and blue couch.

I think that genie coming out of the coffee cup should be able to solve Dawn's problem- Dawn's problem, obviously being the fact that the other girls are following her with torches and pitchforks, not the fact that Dawn is gloriously oblivious to the ethical standards of any college.

Mary can certainly provide the female perspective - she's dressed perfectly, with an aqua dirndl skirt and feminine three-quarter sleeve purple sweatshirt. Brung out the kelk brownies.

KitKat said...

Bring, not brung. I was distracted by autocorrect fighting with me to change "kelk" to "Keli." How nervy!

Mary looks like she is trying to hypnotize Dawn with that strangely steamy brew and the mesmerizing expression on her face. "You will tell me more, Dawn, you will tell me more!"

While purple and teal looks good on a NBA uniform, doesn't Mary know that the Hornets are out of the playoffs?

Petunia said...

No, Dawn, you twit, it's not because people are quick to assume the worst about YOU. It's because you're trailing your professor around like a lost puppy. (Sorry, don't mean to insult puppies.)

Harland needs to be fired -- and it is is not 'Da Vinci', it is Leonardo.

SUNDAY

Getting used to Sunday Mary is going to take some effort. She hasn't looked that close to her true age (about 132) in decades.

Mary looks like Ed Harris in the last panel!

Wow; someone's discovered the picture in Mary's attic.

Who is this new meddling biddy in today's MW and what have they done with the real youthful visage of Mary Worth? Also, Dawn is suddenly looking like Busty Weston from Judge Parker or something. Is Joe Giella retiring? I for one will miss his quirky style, like clouds hiding behind the sun and water gushing into a bowl like a waterfall.

Mary's in hi def today.

Dawn sure is putting away that tea. And if you ask me, there is something rather unmoyish about those last 2 panels.

Today the role of Mary Worth will be played by Spiderman's Aunt May.

Petunia said...

LOL @ "gloriously colossal thumb". Poor Dawn, while she's gained a necklace, she seems to have lost her sleeves...and her bra.

Regina, I guess Aunt May had to go somewhere, since she's been replaced by Marisa Tomei.

I always read the Sunday comic section and was surprised to see Mary Worth and Dawn looking so different. What happened? Why is there a new illustrator? She looks older, which is okay and things change, but just wondering if the previous illustrator is okay.

Is the new Sunday artist also writing the Sunday script? It's nearly real hooman dialogue!

MONDAY
Anonymous at 11:54 p.m. on May 22, June Brigman is drawing the Sunday MW strips. Here's a link posted by Wanders on May 8 with more about June: http://maryworthcomics.com/2016/05/08/june-brigman-will-draw-sunday-art/

And on to today's strip: Does KM pointing her finger at we commenters with Mary's "Those who are lacking in some way tend to attack others to make themselves feel better"?" How insulting!

I guess Mary is NOT going to say, "Dawn, dear, it's unethical for an older man who is in a position of authority over you to indulge in what appears to be comprising behavior with you."

fauxprof said...

The dialogue grows more torturous every day. It seems to be translated from some other language. Klingon, perhaps.

@fauxprof at 10:24 a.m., Lieutenant Commander Worf is recoiling in horror at the very thought of that. Never!

fauxprof said...

@KitKat, must have been Romulan, then. Or Ferengi. (We are fellow nerd-girls.)

Who knew that Mary is such a fan of Prince?

Mary had the perfect opportunity, which any mature adult would have taken to answer Dawn's juvenile question about why it would be wrong for her to date her professor. Of course she didn't take it. That's not the kind of "wisdom" she dispenses.

There is irony is her jumping to the immediate conclusion that anyone questioning Dawn's unethical behavior is a gossip who is somehow "lacking" in something. How about the fact that you are gossiping about people you don't even know, Mary? What exactly are you lacking? Never mind; we already know.

I, too, enjoy a cup of grey hair with Aquanet. Yeech.

Elaine said...

That tea must be drugged...Dawn is sliding off the front. 'Gloriously uncomfortable' indeed!

Petunia said...

Mary's not only jumping to conclusions, she's jumping from one end of the couch to the other.

Delilah said...

Dawn, go away, he’s no good for youuuuuu!

TUESDAY
Mary is sounding more like Yoda today.

RockDoc said...

"WE ARE FORMED FOR OURSELVES, NOT FOR OTHERS." Gimme a break, Mary. You're the QUEEN of keeping up appearances!

There's no point in comparing KM's fantasy academia to a real-world University situation, but here goes anyway. Harlan seems likely to be a non-tenured instructor, possibly an adjunct or part-timer. He hasn't been referred to as "Doctor", but even a PhD is no indication of job security. So Dawn is missing the point. It's not about mean girls hurting her feelings. If Harlan is really her friend, she should realize that he is very, very vulnerable. His cold face a disciplinary board, his contract might not be renewed. Under today's zero-tolerance policies, even tenure isn't sure protection. End of rant.

Forget Mary and her nonsensical blather! Let's call Hilton Berkes, University of S. R. Administrator, to report unethical and possibly compromising behavior between a faculty member and a student. Maybe Hilton should consider attending this Title IX Compliance Institute in August in Las Vegas: https://www.insidehighered.com/events/2016/04/29/title-ix-compliance-institute-fall-2016

Sheesh! Next thing you know, Dawn will be wanting to use the boys' room at SRU.... re: fauxprof's comments...Mary's cluelessness about the modern world of sexual harrassment in university and other settings is pretty infuriating, but I take comfort in knowing that nobody who would really be affected by her outdated approach is probably reading this strip...Kind of like watching a re-run of "Bewitched" or "I Dream of Jeannie"....

Tell me more, tell me more
Was it love at first sight?
Tell me more, tell me more
Did he put up a fight?

Tell me more, tell me more
How much dough did he spend?
Tell me more, tell me more
Could he get me a friend?

Mary believes in that true saying that "if you don't have anything good to say about anyone, come and sit by me, dear".
