Mary Worth 2337

I must admit that I have been feeling a lot like Alfie, the dog that's never there, even though we've felt tantalizingly close when we see a leash dangling from Harlan's hand. Wanders, the blogger that's never there. It seems I've had less opportunity to post as we are neck deep in a move after 16 years in Maryland. So, hopefully, in a month or so, you'll see more posts here... but for now, it may remain a bit sporadic. I'm here every day to read your comments, but time available for posting has really diminished.

Best of fortune with your move, Wanders! May you and your family be happy in your new home. Just don't become a different person once you're out of Mary-Land!

Moving?! Very scary.
I was starting to think the Harlan plot had you too creeped out to post.

I hope you're moving to someplace you've always wanted to live. Of course, moving is a major stressor, and I'm confident I speak for all of us in sending you positive energy, good wishes, and warm prayers. And we'll keep commenting. As to today's strip, there's nothing at the end of that leash. Alfie is imaginary.

Can't wait to see it - After settling into Charterstone, Wanders will be sitting next to Wilber on the double-wide chaise at the pool party!

Wait, even better. Remember the last scene in "The Shining" where Jack Nicholson is in the photo of the crowded ballroom? I do think we'll see Wanders at the pool party, but he'll be standing next to Wilbur at the refreshment table, his desolate eyes staring out at us, holding up a salmon square.

Wanders, best wishes on your move. May it all be smooth for you and yours. Take your time, we here in the Worthiverse understand. The beauty of Mary Worth pacing is that very little will have changed or even progressed in this or any MW plot sequence: Dawn will ruminate, talk with friends, talk with Mary, jog or exercise some more, eat out, see her Dad. Bingo! It's Thanksgiving! We'll all have a lot to be thankful for by then! PS Sharon..."Mary-land" LOVED IT! Still chuckling over that, made my day.

Wishing you well with the move, Wanders!

Wishing you and yours all the best with the move, Wanders. It's not to Santa Royale, is it? Or Goleta, or the Pax Wellness Center....

It's not...Somerset, is it ?

I had Harlan pegged as more Jar Jar Binks than Yoda.

Wherever they're headed, I don't think Alfie is going to make it. Let's alert the ASPCA.

fauxprof said...

Yoda, huh? Talk in backwards sentences, will he? And I was wrong, Alfie is not imaginary. But unless he is a puppy, he's overweight.

Wanders - sixteen years in one place! This will give you an unparalleled opportunity to see how much CRAP has accumulated in all that time. At least, that’s been my experience. We moved a year ago last January and we’re still unpacking! Best wishes, Wanders! Happy and safe travels.

I'm sorry, but the fact that a character in Gil Thorp has been killed has put this all in perspective for me. Have a awesome day, Dawn and Harlan. You're alive. Have an awesome day.

Harlan looks hunky today! Are they jogging towards downtown Santa Royale? Beware the dangerous women's shelter of strips past!

@Laura Canon: I'm mourning, too. Can't believe it!

Be honest, now. You're moving to LA to do stand up with the Comics Curmudgeon, aren't you?

You're moving in with Olive's family, aren't you?

FRIDAY

Don't want to raise false hopes, but today's strip sounds like this lame, limp storyline has come to an end. Pool party tomorrow? Or better yet, Sunday! I really want to see June's take on a Charterstone pool party. BTW, after a lifetime in academia, kudos to U of SR Library for their unique cataloging system. Shelving books by size and color must be much more efficient than LC or Dewey.

As usual, @fauxprof is right on both about this "lame, limp storyline" and Mr. G's concept of an academic library. I've been working in a university library for over 20 years, and it didn't look like this in 1995, let alone in 2016.

If Dawn is so happy, why is she about to stick that pencil in her ear? Ouch!

And once again, it begins and ends with Mary and her advice. She out-Wendys "Ask Wendy" 24/7.

I'm ready for June's take on a Charterstone Pool Party too! Imagine Toby in a bikini, and Ian in AstroTurf swim trunks!

Maxwell Bacon said...

@KitKat: Don't worry, Dawn won't hurt herself with that pencil ... Her helmet hair will protect her! I worry more about the pencil getting crushed and messing up the library floor.

I think the library looks like a real college library, except that the books are all the same color. Maybe Dawn is on the thesis floor? Is she writing a thesis on the representation of lovelorn students in classic comic strips?

Chapter One: Lovelorn Students
Chapter Two: Lonely Students
Chapter Three: Hunky Professors
Chapter Four: Great Advice!
Chapter Five: ???

Ah, the ritual formal thank you to Mary, in the sacred rose garden. Dawn's latest adventure may indeed be over, and she will slip back into undergraduate limbo for another few years. It's also pleasing to note that the colorist no longer has a matchy-matchy obsession, and the characters are not wearing tops and pants from the same dye lot.

KitKat said...

The colorist may have ditched the matchy-matchy obsession, but the roses are brown (at least on the pages of the Plain Dealer). Maybe that's the effect Mary has on "the fragile." And is she including Dawn in that category? "The dense" is more accurate.

Harlanland? Is that the world's most boring theme park?
