Mary Worth 2352

As someone with periodic back problems, may I suggest, Tommy, that you try sleeping on the floor? It can't be nearly as bad for your back as that couch.

Yes, Iris, leave him the bottle. Can you say "enabler"? I knew you could!

Iris is a clueless enabler all right, but she hasn't said, "Tommy, you sleep in the bed tonight."

Iris and Tommy will be delighted to have Mary at their door at 7 a.m. to help with the postponed move.

From the look on Tommy's face, it's already working, but I love the bold type as Iris stresses the intended use of the medicine. At work, his boss has to say "Here, use this mop, Tommy. It's great for WASHING FLOORS."

It's amazing that no matter the situation, you are always able to bring up something that connects you to these characters.

TUESDAY

Judging by Mommie Dearest's facial expression, Tina is not a popular person with her. She probably thinks Tommy could do sooooo much better...

Not only is Iris put out about Tina Baby, she's actively discouraging Tommy from going to his job. How do the Beedies pay their rent and other bills? Iris seems to have no job, and Tommy's janitor position is probably minimum wage. Perhaps the late Mr. Beedie left an unlimited legacy, like Dear Jack apparently did for Mary (even though he ostensibly lost everything in the Crash of 1929).

Is Iris attending class as a student? Or is she teaching it? Is it art history with Professor Harlan Jones at Santa Royale Community College? Does Iris cheat off of Dawn on the test? AWKWARD! ... Or ... does Iris teach Dawn? ALSO AWKWARD!

I don't like that Iris is leaving the whole bottle of pills with Tommy.

@DWET at 11:12 AM, Iris has been competing with Dawn for the title of University of Santa Royale [a.k.a. "the University"] Student Who Has Been Taking the Most Classes for Years Without Graduating. Dawn may have the edge, but Iris is hanging in. I don't think Karen Moy has revealed what course of study Iris is pursuing, but there have been scenes of Iris in the same kind of 1962-era classrooms we've seen Dawn in. Having Iris take Harlan's art history class is a boffo idea!

@KitKat: Thanks for the info, KitKat! I have only been reading "Mary Worth" for the past four years (=three weeks in strip time!), but it seems like it's been decades ... AND decades ... AND decades! I've never seen Iris as a student and don't remember her talking about it, but I would LOVE to see that!!! It would be especially awesome if Dawn and Iris were in Harlan Jones's class, and Dawn got an A on the test, and Iris led a mob of angry students to criticize Dawn for, er...fraternizing too intensely with the prof! (Iris, of course, would have gotten a D-.)

I looked all through Wanders's archives, and the archives at Comics Curmudgeon but couldn't find anything on Iris as a student. I bet it's all up on the official MW site, though!

Could Iris be studying chemistry? Did Tommy get his first meth recipe out of one of his Ma's textbooks?

WEDNESDAY

The Tweedlebeedies are miraculously moved with the help, I presume, of Mr. Allora and Mary. One hopes that Tommy now has a bedroom (and a bed, with a proper mattress). He does seem appreciative of the novelty of indoor plumbing.

Amazing what one hand truck can accomplish.

Iris has her hand on the door - did she bust into the bathroom? For Pete's sake, Ma, give your son privacy! Have your intrusive conversation in the kitchen or living room.

Quite an upscale bathroom in the new digs. Instead of a mirror, just look into the tile.

I foresee Iris staking out Jerry's Sandwich Shop, snooping on Tommy and "his girl," Tina Baby. Of course, we assume that Tommy is still at Jerry's. Perhaps he moved on to another job elsewhere.
