Mary Worth 2374

Is Vicodin the only pain medication that doctors prescribe these days? Because I'm starting to see this story more as an advertisement than a cautionary tale.

Impressive! The Good Doctor has a degree in WWWWWWW from the University of WWWWWWWW! The school's sports teams are well know for only recording W's (I was thinking of a catchy school song, but it's too early, sorry.)

Doctor:" I'll do an exam and help you with that."

Tommy: "Thanks for offering to help with the heavy box, but the Vicodin will be enough, Doc."

Tommy changed shirts. Is this a different day, or is he trying to disguise himself?

I'm having a hard time identifying the ethnicity of our new doctor with his avocado green skin tone. His complexion reminds me of the refrigerator I grew up with. I shall refer to him as Dr. Greene.

I work in a pharmacy... Vicodin was big about ten years ago, but now Norco is the preferred formulation.

I hate to be the hippo that farts in the mudhole, but................where's he getting the money for the co-pay or the deductible or does he even have health insurance with prescription coverage? I think too much.

Oh, so many logical questions. It's futile to ask, but who is paying for all this? Does Jerry provide Tommy with health insurance? Does Iris cover him? Because sooner or later there will be forms to fill out and somebody is going to notice the Doctor-shopping.

Ask your doctor if Vicodin is right for you. Also ask him if he got his wall art from the going-out-of-business sale at Apartment 3G.

Wow, anony! Karen is asking her readers for story suggestions! Do I dare??

I'd like to see this scene repeated at least 3 or 4 more times to drive home the point. I'd also like to see if all Santa Royale doctor's offices have the same artwork on the walls and standard issue clipboard.

One of the doctors I work with tells a story about doing shifts at a walk-in clinic downtown. A patient came in one day asking for a refill, although he couldn't remember the name of the medication. He said "it sounds like a coffee pot...perka something." "Percocet?" "Yeah, that's it." The doctor examined him and suggested something over the counter instead, saying he wasn't in enough pain for Percocet. The patient got up and left the clinic and they watched through the front doors as he walked across the street and proceeded to slam his hand against a brick wall. Then he came back into the clinic, held up his hand and said, "now am I in enough pain for Percocet?"
Perhaps I should send that one to Karen Moy...

So we have established Doctor shopping. Oh, where do we go from here? These are my top 5 wishes for Tommy in his Vicodin induced stupor.

5 - Tommy waking up next to Dawn naked and having no recollection of the night before. Dawn making the walk of shame home and running into Mary on the way.
4 - Intervention with Mary, Iris, Wilber, Toby and Ian's sports coat. Iris shows up drunk after failing Puppetry 101 class. Tommy storms out and steals a car. Realizes he doesn't know how to drive and runs over Hanna Dingdon.
3 - StalkTina baby. Go full on Aldo Kelrast. Get fired publicly by Jerry.
2 - See Tommy get popped for the pill shopping and go to the cooler with a Big, hairy, amorous, cell mate. Then, getting beaten out of mop duty because the guards think he is a slacker.
1- Get grounded by Mommy

Wow, I think this is the first person of color to appear in MW in years (no, I'm definitely not counting Mr Allora..) A black doctor with impeccable Vicodin-prescribing bedside manner, an avid collector of lettuce-themed still lifes, and he doesn't even owe his professional existence to being nobly lifted out of the hood by Mary's rich friend. Thank you June for moving the strip forward by decades (now firmly into the 1950s).

@Anonymous: Ooh, I LOVE your wish number 5! Especially the walk of shame in front of Mary! Dawn might also provide good therapy for Tommy. She can tell him that "life is brutal!"

Tommy ... DAWN is waiting for you!

FRIDAY

How long must we wait for the Tommy Gets Busted strip? Certainly the prescription should be refused as soon as he takes it to the pharmacy, leading him to even more desperate illegal methods. But I'm sure Moy has more tedium in store for us. Sigh.

Friday
June really has done her homework - note the shelves of gray books and the Venetian blinds with drapes, making for an almost seamless transition from Joe Giella's illustrations.

None of the medical offices Tommy is hitting has computers. On Sunday, Tommy will visit the office of Marcus Welby, M.D.

Hi everybody!
Hi Doctor Nick!
We need a Mary Worth, Simpsons hook up. Doctor Nick will keep Tommy in Vicodin forever.
