In yesterday's secret message, I acknowledged that blueberry pie is on my list of top two pies. I consider myself a bit of an expert at eating blueberry pie. But not even I would even DREAM of serving blueberry pie, with its runny compote and staining juices in my LIVING ROOM. Mary Worth, I am in awe of you. Awe.

Today Iris claims that Tommy is 25. When last we saw him--May, 2014--he was coming off a seven year prison sentence. So that means that Tommy was sent to an adult prison at 16? No wonder he's a mess. Of course, he was a pretty nasty piece of work when we first met him. It's going to take more than blueberry pie, Mary. This calls for caramel-pecan sticky buns.
Wow, this plot hasn't progressed at all! With advice like that, I don't think I'm writing to "Ask Wendy" any time soon.
I love June's drawing, but I miss Joe's plastically perfect Mary. Her look fit her personality more.
And, how can Iris and Mary not realize the solution to Tommy's problems is ... DAWN!!!
Well, if the pie stains, all of the furniture is blue and purple anyway, so no big whoop.
I second the comment of @fauxprof at 11:37 a.m. - time and age are fluid indeed in the Worthiverse. Tommy's not the only one careening forward and backward through the years. Dawn, who should be pushing 40, is probably 19 in Worthiverse Years. Of course, emotionally, Tommy is 14 and Dawn is 11.
So, basically, Mary is telling Iris that she's being a neglectful parent to poor Tommy. Forgot college, Iris, Tommy needs his mommy!
Apparently Mary isn't as good at serving pie as you think, Wanders. There are stains all over the furniture....even the lamp! And Mary's blouse, too.
Trust me, Mary's pie crust is to die for. She makes it from bleached flour, lard, Kelk, and confectioners sugar and serves it raw and uncooked so it remains pure white, just like the Charterstone rent roll.
MONDAY
"Tommy needs some mothering", given the situation, may be the lamest advice ever. I think Tommy is well beyond either poor, poor baby or swift kick in the keister. Remember several weeks back when Mary intimated that she might sometimes make mistakes? Could Moy have actually been using foreshadowing to set up a massive mishandling of a serious problem? In the real world Tommy would need professional help and rehab, not muffins and meddling. I'm ranting again, sorry.
Here it is, folks, the cause of opioid addiction: neglectful parenting. Thanks, KM!
@fauxprof at 9:48 AM, I'll bet a dollar to a donut (or a penny to a pie) that Mary intimated that the only mistake she's ever made is being mistaken about making a mistake. (Ugh, trying to wrap my brain around that one makes my head hurt.)

How about a week's stay in a low-rent motel while Iris "mothers" Tommy through his opiate withdrawal? Now THAT'S mothering!!
Tommy really needs some support, but not necessarily from his mother. What is she going to tell him? You quit those drugs, Tommy! He could really use a kindred spirit like Dawn Weston. They both are unlucky at love and are both losers. Maybe two negatives can make a positive. Or maybe Tommy can turn Dawn onto the Vicodin and they can take it together. Dawn is not getting anywhere with Professor Harlan Jones, anyway.
@Moss_Moses: I would LOVE to see Tommy turn Dawn into a drug addict, and I have been wanting to see the future step-siblings as a couple for MONTHS! Bring it on, "Mary Worth" strip! Bring it on!
