Mary Worth 2382

"Tommy, I'm running to Costco and I want you to come with me now that Tina broke up with you."

"Do they have a pharmacy?"

With that tiny fork, it's going to take the rest of the week for Iris to finish that slice of pie. The first bite has been on her fork since Sunday.

Just what a boy needs when his girlfriend has dumped him - more time with Mummy. One of Tommy's errands that Iris can help him with is hitting the personal-care aisle at Santaroymart. After that they can swing by the drug rehab center.

"Oh Tommy, be a dear and go the hygiene aisle and pick me up a gross of Depends, won't you?"
Yes, he's going to want to keep coming back and back to Costco.

Mary's recipe for whiter-than-white pie crust: mix equal parts flour and Crisco. Roll out. Fill pie. Do not bake.

Mary's nail polish color matches that of her pie and teacups.

Tommy used to laze around on the couch watching TV and surfing the "net" and now he is lazing around on the couch doped up on Vicodin. Iris can cure Tommy very quickly - GET RID OF THE COUCH!

This has to be THE lamest advice I have ever heard Mary worth utter, and that's saying something. Next thing we know, Tommy will be breaking into a veterinary clinic in search of elephant tranquilizer to mix with his vicodin....Something tells me Mary doesn't know much about THAT....

Yes, KitKat, the first bite has been on her fork for awhile. But, where did it come from? Only one piece seems to be missing from the pie, and the piece on the plate is very compact and intact. That's a very firm blueberry filling indeed. Not a berry out of place. Oh, the mysteries of Mary's baking. Oh, and yes, Mary, more Mom time is just what babied Tommy needs.

I, too, think it's ridiculous for them to advise an adult man who just broke up with his girlfriend (do we have proof that they were really a couple, or is it all in Tommy's mind that they were?) to spend more time with Mommy!

But the real SHOCKER in today's strip ... Mary Worth isn't sure?!?!?!?

I think the issue here is the lack of a strong male role model for Tommy. He had plenty of them in the cooler between the warden, the guards and his cell mate Bubba.

Since he has been out, Wilber has taught him nothing worthwhile. Unless you include sandwich trivia or a detailed recounting of the history of the sandwich. The only outings they have ever done together have been to Jerry's and now they can't even go there.

The obvious choice for a role model would be Harlan Jones with all his knowledge and lofty goals. Yoga, Parkour, calligraphy. The man could teach Tommy so much, I mean, he even got Dawn to be less of a dud. However, he doesn't work with slackers like Tommy so he is out.

Hilton Berkes, out. John Dill, out. Sean Hastings, out. Ian Cameron, passed out, Jerry, definitely out.

Leaving... Mr. Allorra. Mary need just ask and he will dutifully take on any assignment. I'm sure he has a mop in the shed so there would be an immediate connection. And you never know, he and Iris might hit it off and then Tommy could call him dad.

Oh Mary, there are none so blind as those who have no eyes. I thought it was just a fluke at first, but this is like the fourth time she's been depicted like that. And though many of us have remarked in the past about the bolding of random words and phrases in MW dialogue, I wonder who is responsible for it. Does Moy specify it? Does the person doing the lettering (Roy?) do it on his own? Or is Brigman's call? I also wonder where I can get one of those self-regenerating pies.

I knew this was going to be all about Iris's failure as a mother for daring to have a life of her own apart from her GROWN-UP son. Called it. How dare you not be hovering over your special GROWN-UP snowflake every second of his drug-addled life, Iris!!

I laughed aloud, I did. I heartily chuckled. Kudos!

I have to echo Gina on this one and call out KM for her Continuously Antiquated Storylines.

How Freudian. Naturally, Tommy's problems all stem from The Mother. Iris, to be fair, is no Brain Trust, but then, either is Mary. Or any of the denizens of Santa Royale. Maybe Tina and Jerry, for having the smarts to lose Tommy, but that's not saying much.

@Nance at 2:30 PM, we have to deduct points from Tina because she's trying to reestablish contact with Tommy. That leaves Jerry, and even he was "sorry" to fire a disheveled, unreliable slacker. What a bunch!
